    1. Re: BUCHMANN Family in Alsace
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: BUCHMANN, MENGES Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/gVG.2ACEB/30.2 Message Board Post: The farthest back we go in my husband's BUCHMANN line (and the only BUCHMANN we have in our large database at this point) is his 2nd great-grandmother, Regina BUCHMANN (b 28 Feb 1830 in Oberbronn, Elsas-Lothringen (the German version of Alsace-Lorraine), Germany; d 9 May 1893 in Pittsburgh, PA) who married Philip MENGES (b 8 Feb 1829 in Oberbronn, Elsas-Lothringen; d 6 Jan 1902 in Pittsburgh). Philip served in the U.S. Civil War. We don't even know whether they married (Abt. 1853) in the U.S. or in Germany before immigrating. I'm responding because you're researching within the same location from which my husband's BUCHMANNs and MENGES' came, although you're a couple of hundred years further back in your work. Great! I'd like to tie in to it, if it's appropriate. Do you have a list of descendants of your BUCHMANNs that might help us out, possibly showing a Regina in the reportedly-picturesque village of Oberbronn in the early 1800s?
