hello, I was guessing from the middle name that he was Lutheran. My Buchmann's originated in the Rhine-Pfalz area of Germany. When the Ottomans were kicked out of Eastern Europe, my line immigrated in about 1775 to the Banat area of what is now Romania. Most stayed until the Germans were "asked" to leave after WWII. I had one great aunt and one great uncle (brother and sister) that stayed. The rest either left or died. Many went to Hungary. A Buchmann or two were involved in the ill-fated Hungarian revolution in the mid-1950's. If you can get back to the late 1600's, where my Buchmann family tree starts, we might have a match there.
