Born in Ephrata on March 9, 1949, Daryl was a 1967 graduate of Moses Lake High School. He had also attended school in Hunters, Wash. During his high school years he participated in both wrestling and football. Daryl was presently employed as a guard at the Neah Bay Prison in Forks, Wash., where he had worked for many years. Prior to that he had worked as a logger near Forks, and spent most of his youth and early adult years farming east of Moses Lake around the Wheeler area, working on his uncle Ed Buchmann's wheat, sugar beet, and cattle ranch. He also spent a few years farming in Twin Falls, Idaho, before settling in Forks. In 1968 Daryl completed his Christian confirmation classes at Grace Lutheran Church in Moses Lake, then later that year he joined the United States Navy, serving primarily in California during the Vietnam War. Daryl's logging career was ended when the spotted owl was named to the Endangered Species list. Daryl was a lifelong sportsman, enjoying deer and pheasant hunting, but in later years he had become an avid fisherman, particularly smelt fishing on the Pacific coast. Throughout his life, Daryl was an ardent horseman. He presently owned a horse in Forks and drew much pleasure in its company. Married in 1983, Daryl and his wife, Vicki Deanna, spent many contented hours sitting on the beach, discussing the events of the day. Daryl was the heart and soul of a large family. His natural father, Raymond Buchmann, and a younger brother, also Raymond, preceded Daryl in death. He is survived by his wife, Vicki Deanna, six children, Dusty Daryl (wife Kristen) of Tacoma; Raymond (wife Christina) of Forks, (both from a first marriage with Cindy Lambert); Miranda (husband Ronald Haugh) of Mt. Vernon; Brandon (wife Tracy) of Seattle; Cameron Rhea (fianc/, Rafe Alan Price) of Forks; and Phillip, presently in the U.S. Army, stationed in North Carolina.
