    1. [BUCHMANN] Notice about Rootsweb Lists
    2. Jim Jackson
    3. This has been received from the Rootsweb administration: Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account. Thank you for being part of the RootsWeb family and contributing to this community. Sincerely, The RootsWeb team If anyone has an interest in finding alternative communication possibilities and/or suggestions for alternatives, please send a note to the list to that effect ASAP. With heavy hearts, Jim and Di

    1. [BUCHMANN] Help Keep This List Active
    2. Jim Jackson
    3. I just wanted to encourage you all to make use of this list in your family searches. A large number of Rootsweb lists have been made inactive due to no messages over a period of time. We want to keep as many lists active as we possibly can and your participation will help toward that goal. If you have a "brick wall" in your family search, send in a message with as much information as you have and let's see if someone may be able to help fill in those blanks. Best Wishes, Jim

    3. I am glad you sent this for everyone to see. One segment of the reconstruction process is the transferring of archives to the new server. We do not know how long this will take; some lists already have their archives available. Eventually we will be able to access the archives and take advantage of the information there. The link at the bottom of messages is another fix that is in the works. The links are from the old system and no longer work. We are asked to be patient as they are aware of these things but have a mountain to dig through. Since some things are once again working, the possibility is great that the others will also. Jim, Does this mean that the old lists will be going away? I can login to the old lists (Buchmann is one of them) but when I use your link, I only see two messages from you. Also, my old username and password do not work with the new list but they seem to work with the old list. Is this the expected results? 3. hello, I was guessing from the middle name that he was Lutheran. My Buchmann's originated in the Rhine-Pfalz area of Germany. When the Ottomans were kicked out of Eastern Europe, my line immigrated in about 1775 to the Banat area of what is now Romania. Most stayed until the Germans were "asked" to leave after WWII. I had one great aunt and one great uncle (brother and sister) that stayed. The rest either left or died. Many went to Hungary. A Buchmann or two were involved in the ill-fated Hungarian revolution in the mid-1950's. If you can get back to the late 1600's, where my Buchmann family tree starts, we might have a match there. 1. [BUCHMANN] Walter Buchmann of Wilmette, Illinois, d. 2010
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: ShawnaWoodard Surnames: Buchmann Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.buchmann/54/mb.ashx Message Board Post: WALTER BUCHMANN Walter Buchmann, "Walt," 70, of Wilmette, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in his sleep October 7, 2010. He is survived by his devoted wife and companion of 46 years, Anna Marie Buchmann. He was a confidant, mentor, and very dear friend to each of his children and their spouses, Tamara Wyse (Joseph), the late Laura Gasho (James), and Mark Buchmann (Melissa), and to his sister Marykay Verzatt. He adored and was adored by his seven grandchildren, who knew him as "Papa" or "Pops"-he could always be counted on to make them laugh with his irreverent sense of humor, teach them about the world, and have fun, even if it meant breaking a few rules. Whether it was a backyard water fight, making brownies with excessive icing, trips to the museums, or hosting before-school breakfast for their buddies, Papa was a much-loved playmate for the grandkids. Walt will also be deeply missed by his many good friends. He was close to so very many who counted on him as a most trusted and wi! se friend who always cared and listened, providing thoughtful and compassionate advice when needed. He was always there for a friend in need, especially in times of illness. He had a love of knowledge, literature, classical music, the arts, his country, nature, writing, world travel, basketball, cycling, children, chocolate, and red wine. He read voraciously and his opinion on many topics was valued by friends and family. Walt was an educator for most of his life. Among his many professional accomplishments, he was one of the leaders in creating non-traditional education resources including 'The University without Walls' and 'The Community Colleges of the Air Force'; in addition he aided in the formation of 'Trilogy Behavioral Healthcare'. Most of all, he loved his family and close friends. He will long be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him as an exceptionally bright, warm, and wonderfully unique person. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate ! a donation in Walter's name to the Northbrook Public Library "Friends of the Library" fund. My father's cousin Ruth Flöter, * 1912 in Potsdam, was married to a Kurt Buchmann, architect and engineer in Berlin. Ruth lived with her parents in Rathenow before she married. The Berlin directory shows Kurt's address and telephone number from 1936 to 1968. Ruth died after 1970, obviously in Berlin. No further information available. If there is a connection let me know.
