Hello, I'm searching for Bryants, possibly of Cherokee descent and who possibly had connections in east Texas, but also lived in Alabama or Georgia for a time. Possibly connected to the family of Chief Bowles of the Texas Cherokees. My gg grandmother is Fannie (Fanny) Bryant, who was mostly Cherokee, who married a William Crawley, who may have also been Cherokee, or from some other tribe, or possibly of Dutch/Indonesian background (the real mystery man in our family, as it is said that he his real last name was not actually Crawley). They had 13 children, including 3 sets of twins. Fannie was born in either Alabama or Georgia and then later moved with her husband William Crawley to east Texas around Tyler, Texas. I am descended from their daughter Laura, who married Charles Thomas Miller in Texas. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone out there? I seem to have hit a brick wall on this one. My grandmother said that she believed that there was a connection between Fannie Bryant Crawly and a man known as "Doc" Bryan in the Tyler, Texas area in the early 1900s. It is possible that Fannie Bryan's Cherokee blood was not from the Bryan side of the family, but from her mother, who we believe may have been a daughter of John Bowles, son of Chief Bowls (Diwali), both of whom died in Texas in 1839. We have believed that her Cherokee blood was on both of her parents' lines, but we don't know for sure... I would love to hear from anyone who might have any information about this family. Thanks, Peggy Smith
