We sign a release so we could do research. One of the jobs of project is Recruit Participants are they doing that? Here are World Families Network standards. http://www.worldfamilies.net/start_project.htm Here is example of what some get for their money. http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/h/hogan/results.html Here is what out current Project Coordinator thinks. It took some time for me to to sort out information about a Bryan DNA chart currently available on the internet. Unknown to me, as administrator, this is our Bryan Surname Project being advertised on Rootsweb. It includes all member's personal family DNA and for some, your ancestor information. Recently, one of Bryan member has been pushing hard to have all member's actual DNA results put on the the Bryan website for all members to check over. It has been my feeling as well as Rae's, the other Bryan administrator, that this chart is not necessary to find how you matched or did not match other members but I understand it may be as some significance to some people. (If we ever made such a chart we intended to ask permission of all the members FIRST to list their personal DNA and ancestor info.) To this one member, it seemed very important. His campaigning has resulted in the company vice-president setting up this chart for our group when Rae was speaking to him last Friday. Unfortunately, the only person who knew it somehow was this Bryan member who wanted the chart made public. He has personally listed it on Rootsweb. The site is: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/bryan/ For you information, your personal Bryan DNA is on this chart and available to the people visiting Rootsweb because of this one act of a fellow member. He chose to advertise it on Rootsweb immediately after the chart was developed on Friday and now I am getting inquiries from strangers. I have asked the vice president to remove it but he seems to have no objection to it remaining. I am trying to at least have my name and email address removed so I don't have to answer unnecessary inquires from non-members. This is just a volunteer job and there are no rewards or perks for the administrator's time or efforts. I am writing this mass email to all members so they will be aware of this public showing of their DNA records and my protest against the use of this chart beyond the "members' only" viewing it. To my knowledge, this one member listed the Bryan DNA Chart website on his own is the only one responsible for the public viewing it. If you have a problem with this chart's public viewing, or your DNA/ancestor made public please let me know and I will forward this request to Family Tree for your Bryan DNA and ancestor info to be removed. Pat If at any time you want to stop receiving e-mails from your DNA Project Administrator, please go to the "Setup Preferences" section of your personal page and change the corresponding setting.
