    3. Hello List My William Henry Brown was born Nov 3 1868 in Ohio (some reports) in others it say's born in Indiana, in the 1880 census it states in that census he was 9 years old and living in the home of Catherine & Thomas Frank Bryant, Jay County. Now if the census were correct he would have been born in 1871/2 then in 1900 census he was going by Bryant. He married my Grandmother Edith Margaret Clawson in 1897 with the name Bryant. I have found no adoption or papers to state a name change. I guess if I don't connect to a Brown my family line of Bryant not Brown starts and ends with him. In later life he belonged to the Friends church, or maybe he belonged all along, I don't know. Anyone know another name for the Friends Church. Ellie

    3. Ellie - The Friends Church is another name for Quakers. If I'm not mistaken the Quakers refer to their "church building" as "the Meeting House". Check to see if Jay County has / had a Quaker community. If so, they may have the records you need. If not check for any Quaker meeting house in Indiana - they may be able to point you in the right direction. Hope this helps - Donna -----Original Message----- From: bryant-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:bryant-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Eleanor Prieskorn Sent: Friday, September 07, 2007 5:19 PM To: Bryant-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [BRYANT] Bryant-Brown Hello List My William Henry Brown was born Nov 3 1868 in Ohio (some reports) in others it say's born in Indiana, in the 1880 census it states in that census he was 9 years old and living in the home of Catherine & Thomas Frank Bryant, Jay County. 3. How do I get some records? I am trying to find William's birth mother, and if they were Quakers and she fell sick another member would take the child to raise (William).
