I am looking for any information on the BRYANT family who was from Missouri and came to the INDIAN TERRITORY and lived around Fort Smith, Arkansas. There were two sisters named Elizabeth (Lizzie) and Mary Bryant. Their mother was Matilda ROBINSON BRYANT, father unknown. Elizabeth married first a man name MCKINNEY and they had two children together. She then married Daniel Webster BUFFINGTON and they lived in CRAIG COUNTY around Vinita. On Lizzie's death certificate she is listed as an Indian and her mother's maiden name was ROBINSON. Mary married a man named PARRICK and they had a son, William Harvey PARRICK. She then married Cecil WARDEN and had some children with Cecil including my grandfather, John Henry WARDEN. According to a page in Harvey PARRICK'S bible Mary and Elizabeth's mother was Matilda ROBINSON BRYANT. Then it states that Matilda's mother's last name was MORGAN. I have never been able to find Mary and Cecil on any records. My grandfather's marriage certificate had their names listed and that is all I have on them. I think all John's family except his half-brother, Harvey, and his aunt, Lizzie, were all the family he had by about 1890. The legend is that Mary and Lizzie were half CHEROKEE, that John was living on a reservation with an old woman (possibly Lizzie or Matilda) when he was about 6 years old and that his brother took him from the reservation and took him to live with him in WASHINGTON COUNTY around Bartlesville. I have been searching for this part of my family for over twenty years and the above information is all I know. Hopefully, this will reach someone who may have a bit more information than me. Sincerely, Barbara Windrup
