I have been inundated lately with vile, disgusting unsolicited email. I had thought rootsweb has some sort of block on this but, in the last one I received (today), I recognized several of the names of folks I've seen who are fellow members of the Bryant list. These names, along w/mine, were in the "to" line. It seems obvious to me (and maybe I'm wrong) that the spammers have someone gotten into our Bryant mail list and using the names and addresses to send out their filthy email. Has anyone else had this problem? How can we stop it? I know that you cannot click on "remove" to get your name off the list, as they will use that as affirmation of your address and not only continue to send you this garbage, but will sell your name to other spammers. Each time I get one of these emails I report it to "[email protected]" (whatever isp it came from) as well as to<A HREF="mailto:DadslitGur"> [email protected]</A>. But I have not had much positive response from the ISPs and no response at all from the ftc. Any ideas? If belonging to my favorite genealogy lists is going to cause me this much harassment I'm ready to quit. I seem to get 3 or 4 of these each day and each time the "to" list has several names from various gen. lists, not just Bryant.
