Lainhart She states: In seventeenth-century Massachusetts there were six immigrants of the BRIANT-BRYANT surname: Stephen BRYANT of Plymouth, Lieutenant John BRYANT of Plymouth, John BRYANT, Sr., of Scituate, John BRYANT of Taunton, William BRYANT of Boston, and Abraham BRYANT of Reading. Lieutenant John BRYANT of Plymouth was the son-in-law of Stephen BRYANT of Plymouth, but that is the only known relationship among these sex men (Register, 35 [1881]: 37). Brief genealogies on the first three BRYANTs have appeared in the Register: John A. Boutelle, "Stephen BRYANT and His Descendants" (24 [1869]: 315; William B. LAPHAM, "Lt. John BRYANT of Plymouth" (35 [1881]: 37; Percy BRYANT, Descendants of John BRIANT, Sen., of Scituate, Mass." (48 [1894]: 46). A more extensive genealogy on William BRYANT also appeared in the Register: George Walter CHAMBERLAIN, "Old Boston Families, Number 6, The BRYANT Family" (96 [1942]: 321) A single line of the Stephen BRYANt family (Rachel Amy, Jesse, Prince, Samuel, Stephen) is well covered in Tenney SMITH's Charles Smith and Rachel Amy Bryant, Their Ancestors and Descendants (Brattleboro, Vt., 1938). The descendants of Joseph (Jerathameel, Stphen) who settled in Saco, Main, are given in Ianthe Bond Hebel's "The Ancestry and Descendants of Major Joseph BRYANT" (Grand Rapids, Mich., 1944, typescript at the Society). The Descendants of David (David, John) who settled in Bristol, Maine are covered in Frederick A.
