    3. There are currently two projects at Family Tree DNA that have BRYANT participants. One is the Bryan project and the other is O'Brien project. You can join one project and order your test at the discount rate. After you return your test kit you can then join another project so that your results are reported to both projects. You can actually belong to both the BRYAN and O'BRIEN projects that way. Currently the O'BRIEN project has more members and reports results in an easily understood format. The project administrator is also very helpful.

    3. With the free test you have no way to check with your matches, contact is not provide for, nor is a ID number like mine below. The thread is from the DNA list and how people are trying to contact their matches on that free data base. I believe in this work that bigger sample solve most problems. So I am for Y67 more markers, more family members being test, more people of a surname being tested, more member of the IrishType III being tested etc. I am also for being truthful as possible as each of us can be. Like Judy brother it could be away to check on the for fee labs work. You would have the information need to access the database information. 3. I will contact you off list. Prices and company names that charge is against the rules on Rootwebs List. The free test does not give much service. Since "Bryant" do not have a surname project of there own it hard to answer if someone else has tested. I will check as time permits. My suggestion is to do the free test and one for a fee so you are in more databases. The results of my "Irish Surname Stew Newsletter" is taking up most of my time. John b. 3. Keith, Be aware that people are getting tested for all the reasons you listed in your post. You response shows why I do not have the right skill set to run a DNA surname project. Also be aware the results may not be what you expect. A person I ask to test to see if their Bryant's was part of our line, just came back in the Y-DNA haplogroup N. Makes me think maybe her brother had his office mate do the test. Haplogroup N is from northern Russia. Has anyone got Bryant from there? 3. I have a suggestion for Keith. Go to Google or whatever search engine you use and search on "DNA Testing". There are a lot of sites out there that give some basic understanding. . It can help as shown below: a.. Determine if two people are related b.. Determine if two people descend from the same ancestor c.. Find out if you are related to others with the same surname d.. Prove or disprove your family tree research e.. Provide clues about your ethnic origin Confused with all the talk of markers, mutations and haplotypes? See Genetic Basics: Understanding the Clues Found in Our DNA Hope this help you Keith! Ellie Call

    3. Keith, I would have to write a book to answer all the questions that are in your message. I will give one point at a time a try. Theory behind the Project. The GENEALOGY-DNA-L list has about 2000 to 2500 message a month by mostly Ph. D. working on that.
