    2. John I have submitted my DNA into the Family Tree project, my results will not be done until the 20th of August, can you tell me if my results will be compared to all various spellings of Bryan, Bryant , O'brien. I'm hoping so, as it looks as tho only 53 in Bryan spelling. As I have found in my research the last name spelling of mine did include the t on the end, Bryant. I believe at some point the t was dropped from the Bryan surname. 3. Rachel, In my opinion, you must look in both. After a split up in that time women needed help. If her lover was in Sumner Co., and available, I would suspect she would have stayed in Sumner Co. Otherwise she would probably seek help from a close relative, parents or a sibling. Any Bryant that was of the right age and in Sumner Co. in 1810 is a prime suspect. Any Male Bryant in Sumner Co. in 1810 who then turns up in Lincoln Co. in 1820 would become the leading candidate for a "close" relative. 3. There are two BRYANT entries in the early Land Grants of Sumner Co. TN 1786-1806 -- one for James Bryant and one for William Bryant. The entry for William Bryant is dated 11 July 1788 as a land grant from the State of North Carolina and says William was a private in the Continental Line for North Carolina. The tract of land was 640 acres on the waters of Collins Creek and granted to Michael Montgomery, assignee of William Bryant. The other grant was to Michael Montgomery, assignee of said Lewis Ralph and the land joined James Bryant, dated same day, and on same Collins Creek. These might be worth pursuing to identify your Lucretia. Check with military records. -----Original Message----- From: bryant-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:bryant-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of rachel Sent: Wednesday, July 04, 2007 1:05 PM To: BRYANT@rootsweb.com Subject: [BRYANT] Bryant's in Sumner co. Ahasuerus filed for a divorced oct 2 1821 Sumner county claiming adultery on behalf of Lucretia. I am at a loss as to who her parents were- I have found the following and have sent off for the full record since it does mention the name Gwin: Bryant, William heirs, vs. Gwin, Edward year 1820 There is also the following: William Bryan estate dated 1819 Lucretia was residing in Lincoln co., TN when the divorce was filed and I have found several Bryant families also living there. She and Ahasuerus had several children, according to the many census that I have although I am only able to conclusively place 2 sons William Dyer- my line and John Dyer I believe she must have had a couple of daughters also. Isaac's Father is William or Isaac and he had brothers William, and Leslie. Issac had my Francis who married Susannah Griggs. 3. If you have a local genealogical society, they might have the wonderful Family Tree Maker: KY Genealogies #1, 1700-1800s from Genealogical Publishing Co. Inc. I saw no Austin Bryant, but it tells of probable early ancestor, Bryan, b. abt. 927 who became King of Munster, Ireland at age 51. It starts off with the spelling "Bryant" used mostly in NC, and of Morgan Bryant who emigrated from north of Ireland to Chester Co., PA. then in 1728 obtained grant of 100,000 acres on the Potomac and Opequan River in VA. Morgan Bryant was father to four sons, John, Gabriel, Roger, and ? who were founders of Bryant's Station in 1779. Then it has tons of m. info. Good Luck. LuJuana 76yr. 2. Good morning, John My last know location is as follows: Powell Bryant b 1800 in Buckingham County, Virginia Married Martha (Mary) Eagle b 1812 in Buckingham County, Virginia Powell's father was William Martin Bryant and his mother was Elizabeth H. Pettit (according to a cousin). William is the one I'm searching for and have been unable to locate. Once I pass that barrier, hopefully I can keep going backwards until I find out where we originated - either Ireland, England, Scotland, America....where ever. My father always told me that we had a royal Scottish ancestor with flaming red hair. He also told me that we were Irish and that my great grandmother, Mary Frances Via Bryant, was of Cherokee heritage. Again, I have been researching this family for about 30 years (since my teens) and haven't been able to prove any of this so far. In looking at the information I have, it appears that Buckingham County, Amherst County, Appomattox, Nelson County and city of Lynchburg, are the prominent locations that I have so far. I don't know what other states my relatives may have lived in. Again, any help you can provide would be wonderful! Thank you for responding! Have a nice Sunday! 2. Hi Pauline Although I am looking for a William Bryant, mine would date around the early 1700's. I really don't recognize any of the other names either. I don't know exactly where in this country our family initiated, i.e., where an immigrant originally landed, or where the first Bryant of my family was born, etc. It may or may not have been originally in Virginia, but I have not been able to find that information as of yet. Good luck on your research and if I come across any of your family, I'll certainly let you know.
