Hi Everyone! There comes a time when complaints about chit-chat is worse than the chit-chat. We may be close to that on this list. There IS a solution in the works! Debbie Anderson has been so kind as to offer to set up a web site that will house the Bryant Newsletter. Those of you who are interested will be able to go there to sign up for the newsletter, read what all is going on, and can talk privately to Debbie about things for the Newsletter. Those who are not interested will not be bothered, except for an occasional announcement that the web site does exist and an occasional tagline from me giving the URL. I'm sure Debbie will post an announcement here when this site is up and ready to go. I hope that will be satisfactory to everyone. Please remember to thank Debbie (privately would be good <g>) for all of her hard work! This is no easy task and I feel a great debt of gratitude to her for helping! THANKS DEBBIE! Kay
Rootsweb lists are left up to the discretion of the listowners and when people write to me wanting an outlet for the trivil things that relate to family I comply. I had a wide variety of assistants and I appreciated everyone of them. Hats off to them My Bryant list grew leaps and bounds and still is, I am still here and still involved. Here's my line so far. Hope someone out there can connect with me. William Bryant b. 1812 in NC m. Mary (Polly) Ramey in Scott Co VA abt 1852. Children Susan Bryant b. 1854 in Smythe Co., VA m. Halvin Hale in Scott Co VA 12 Aug 1872. Louise Jane Bryant b. 1859 in Scott Co VA. John Bryant b. Scott Co VA m. M. E. Howard in Scott Co VA 1876. Louisa Jane Bryant had one son out of wedlock, James M. Bryant. She married David Falin in Scott Co VA 3 Mar 1878. James M. Bryant b. Mar 1873 probably in Scott Co VA d. 1942 in Canton, OH m. Mary Elizabeth Horton abt 1892 in Scott Co., VA. James was a Methodist preacher. They had five children; Charles Edward Bryant, Laura E. Bryant, Cora Lee Bryant, James Thomas Bryant and Clifton Bryant. Charles Edward Bryant b. Mar 1893 d. 1942 in Canton, OH m. (1) Octavia Russell Fraley (2) Anna Mae Thomas and (3) Leitha Stipe. Charles and Octavia had six children; Laura Geneva Bryant, Christine M. Bryant, Casper Bryant, Oneal Bryant, Corey Cleo Bryant and Forest Bryant. Charles and Anna Mae had one child, Mary Elizabeth Bryant. Charles was an inventor. One of his inventions was used by the railroad for coupling the cars together. I would really like to learn about William Bryant's parents and siblings and pin down where in NC he was born. Do any of these people ring any bells with anyone? Cindy PS I agree with the others. This list is supposed to be for genealogy. If recipes, newsletters, birthday and anniversary rememberances are wanted set up a separate list for that purpose, don't muddle up the genealogy list with it. Has it dawned on anyone that the previous listowner had difficulty getting people involved the the various projects she suggested. Could that have been because people weren't interested or didn't feel it fit in with the genealogy nature of the list and just didn't say anything? Sometimes silence can speak volumes if you listen. _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. Visit http://www.msn.com

Awiusdi's Bryant Ancestors I would throw my information out there to see if anyone knows anything at all. I am at a brick wall that I cant climb. Ok here goes... Eliza Bryant b 1861 Surry Co NC married into my Darnell line, his name was Wade Darnell Eliza Bryant had a brother named Joe who also married into my Tally line which is connected to The Darnells and Bryant line. Dates unknown Ok lets see.,... I have a family Bible that belonged to Joe bryant which list a Bessie b 1891 or 91 ( dates are unclear ) d 7-31-1942( Joe's First wife ) Who had a daughter named Grace Other names in this Bible are Rosaline May ( married to ? Hill ) b 1905 Mary Ellen Bryant b 1902 d 12-1932 Barton Bryant b 1901 d 1902 This morning my father tells me that Grace was a school teacher in Dayton Ohio and was married to a Turner Bogus together having a son named Jim and a daughter ( dad didnt remember her name ) No dates. Turner was in the Airforce and that is all he knew. I have borrowed a book on the Bryants from a listmember and am getting ready to mail that back to her on Monday and I am frustrated because I know my line connects to the Ohio Bryants that are listed in that book, But I am missing enough information to make a direct connection. If anyone knows anything about this line of Bryants,,,,please email me..... I have no information that had lead me to the parents of Joe and Eliza and if you can help me find my missing ancestors I would like to hear from you. Awiusdi Darnell My Websites: 1. Would like to know any information on Betsey (maybe Elizabeth) Bryant. Would like to know who her parents were. She was married to James S. Washburn. She was born in Norton, Mass. PinzNndle
I am searching for my Bryant roots, and I can't get any further than my grandfather Johnathan Alexander Bryant. He was married to Sarah Emmy(?) GRAY who was born 12-15-1869 in ? and died April 1942 in Oklahoma near or in Marshall, county. J.A. Bryant was born about 1859 place unknown. We have always heard that maybe he came from Alabama, and his fathers name may have been George Wesley Bryant and his mother Becky. I would think that might be short for Rebecca. His wife, my grandmother we heard was from Missouri. I believe that their children were all born in Oklahoma. My father being the youngest one was born after it became a state. The names of the children are: Oscar Bryant William (Willy) Ira(female) m ? Dewberry. She died giving birth to Charles Dewberry Virgie Cordelia b. Sept. 21, 1897 d. sept 1974. m Henry McDonald. They were living in Kingston, Ok in 1974 Carry b.Mar 21, 1899, d. Mar 1976. m. Edward Stewart. She was living in Ontario, Ca at the time of her death. Calvin Earl b. 12-17-1908, d.Nov. 1977.m. Laura Sweeden in Paul's Valley, Ok July 28 1940. He was living in Madill, Ok at the time of his death. The J.A Bryant family lived near Shay, Ok.
Hi Listers! Seeking parents/siblings of: BRYANT, Gamaliel b. 2 May 1813, TN/NC?. Preacher. Found in the following censi: 1840 Sevier Co. TN, 1850 Cherokee Co. NC, 1860 Monroe Co. TN, 1870 Washington Co. AR, 1880 Madison Co. AR. He died in 1895 in Springdale, Washington Co. AR. He married first the daughter of Johnson ADAMS of Sevier Co. TN. Her name was Winifred Absala ADAMS. They had children: William Franklin b. 1835 TN; Johnson A. b. 1838 TN; Mathew C. b. 1840; Nancy b. 1842; Levi b. 1847; Andrew b. 1849, and Simeon/Simon. In 1854 in McMinn Co. TN Gamaliel married Rebecca DOBKINS b. 1824, daughter of Johnson DOBKINS of Sevier Co. TN. They had the following children: Elisha b. 1855, Saletha b. 1858, James b. 1861 and Sarah Jane b. 1864. Seeking Gamaliels parents. Unproven information claims father of Gamaliel may have been E(lisha?) Alexander BRYANT from Ireland, but have been unable to locate any such person in NC or TN at the proper time. I believe Gamaliel was brother to Salenthia/Saletha Bryant who married Thomas P. Headrick in Blount Co. Gamaliel named a daughter Saletha. I also think Gamaliel had a brother Wm. "Franklin" Bryant who married Betsy (Susan) Compton dau. of Joseph Compton. Gamaliel named a son William F. Bryant who also had a son by that name. There is another Wm. F. Bryant in McMinn County old enough to be an uncle to Gamaliel and there is evidence he is related as well. I have much information on his descendants to share. Have located 10 other cousins so far. Please let me know if anything looks familiar! Lorien Gunsallus

Hi Christine, Have you located a death certificate and marriage record for Jonathan Alexander Bryant? These two documents, if found, may hold excellent clues for you. Most death certs have the names and birthplaces of the parents, and the marriage record may have the name of a male relative as bondsman. Also, have you located this family in any of the census records? Ancestry.com has the AIS census records available online (for a fee) and the LDS also has them on microfilm for free. I did a quick search for you on Ancestry (I am a member) and found 13 George Bryants in AL: 1840 Federal Census: George Bryant, Butler Co. R. Arand, Thanks for your post. I am wondering if your Bryant's may have come from Tennessee? Your first names and surnames are similar to mine and my Bryant descendants later immigrated to Greene County, Arkansas. Is that near Yell County? I have my Cynthia Marie Duncan, ennumerated with a Hezekiah Bryant so I believe that is her father. Next door to her in Hickman there is a William Bryant... At this point all I can do is make wild assumptions on Cynthia and chase any leads. I wish to introduce myself to my fellow Bryant researchers. I am Beverly (Bragg) James and I am looking for any information on Mary H. "Polly" Bryant married to Elias Bragg. Her birth was the 14th of July 1790 in Virginia, marriage July 1807 in Buckingham Co., Virginia, and death the 22nd of September 1865 in Chestnut Twp., Knox Co., Illinois. I would love to hear from someone that may have any information as to her parentage. Here's hoping.
Here's a link listing the genealogical holdings of the Clarksville, Montgomery County, TN library. It is quite extensive and may prove useful for your research. http://www.clarksville.org/holdings.txt Kathy in FL [email protected]

I don't mean to sound like I don't appreciate the need to preserve family history of which the recipes are a part, for example. There is a place for this. But I don't think it is an important part of my research to be remembered on my birthday or anniversary. I have my immediate family for that. I have wondered if the relatively few genealogy posts to this list (as compared to others of which I am a member) have caused subscribers to leave having not found this list helpful. Sorry, but let's get on with some serious Bryant research queries! I'd love to see everyone repost their query. I'll repost mine with newly gleaned data when I get home this evening. Lorien
Ruthie, have you see the site at http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ (land grants from some eastern states - includes AR)? It sounds like you have your family's grants, but if you haven't been to this site, you will enjoy it, I think. Your awfully close to our Bryant's in Clark Co., AR... Maybe we'll find a link one day! Good luck! I second that! I have been following this list for months now, and other than a few bursts here and there, have not seen much genealogy being discussed. I have come close to removing myself, but resigned myself instead to discarding most messages that didn't pertain to Bryant research. I am looking for information on the family of Ambrose H. S. Bryant who was married to Rachel (Baker?) Ambrose was born c. 1829. Son, William Bryant, b. 1855 m. Mary Jane Mainer. Their daughter Rachel Emaline Lizabeth Ann Bryant ("Emma") was my great grandmother. She married George Washington Stacey. Have found land records placing Ambrose in Johnson County, Arkansas in 1860 and Yell County Arkansas in 1844 next to Elizabeth Bryant. (Land grant issued same day, so I presume Elizabeth and Ambrose are related - mother?) The children I have for William and Mary Jane Mainer are: Ambrose b 1877, m. Dora Beaver; Emma (above) b. 1879; Riley b. 1881, m. Hettie Casey; and Liza b. 1883, m. Joe Woods. Thank you, R. Arand
April, there really is genealogy here... just not a whole lot lately, and for that I am sorry. Have you listed your family and the Bryant ancestor you need to find? Beyond that, try the GenConnect Surname Board for Bryant's at http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/bry/Bryant or the Surname Cluster board for Bryant's at http://resources.rootsweb.com/~clusters/surnames/b/r/BRYANT/ Best of luck! Debbie and all you wonderful Bryant volunteers, Thanks so much for taking over the newsletter. I basically don't have any idea what it is since I joined the group less than a month ago. This list seems to run a lot differently than others, and I'm at a loss. Since I've joined I have received more requests to volunteer for a position than I've been querried for Bryant ancestors. I have one Bryant that I need to find, that's it. But, it seems like this list has more to do with cookbooks, newsletters, and birthday parties than genealogy. Am I wrong here? I volunteer for a lot of worth while projects, but I joined this list to do something for myself. I'd rather spend what little free time I have locating my deadend, Cynthia Marie Bryant of Hickman Tennessee. Please let me know what web sites and newsgroups may assist my search. thanks for your help, April
