Hi! I have some queries over the years concerning Bryants and thought if I put them altogether someone may benefit from it. Bewarned that some of these queries are from 1983 onwards. 1. Walter Bryant married Elizabeth? about 1800. They lived in Bodmin (Cullaputt). Following the birth of a son Walter 14/10/1806 or 7 the history of this son and his descendants is fairly well documented in the book 'The Bryants of Blisland & Bodmin and Mutton Falls, Oberon'. Walter married Mary Burrett and came to Australia in 1841. 2. Richard John Bryant, born 15/5/1830, son of Richard and Elizabeth Bryant, at Saint Erth, Cornwall. Richard married Elizabeth Millstead (born Helston, Cornwall) at Helston on the 14/7/1849. they arrived in South Australia in 1853. 3. George Henry Bryant, butcher of Hill End; who was born in Sydney 8 May 1837 and died at Hill End 8 May 1908. George Henry was a son of John Bryant, tailor of Sydney and his wife Catherine, who arrived on board the barque "Edward Caulson", 18 Nov 1833. 4. Albert Edward Bryant, born 8/5/1876. died in 1958, aged 82 years. He married Ethel Victoria Braybrook at Lucknow, 25/12/1901. Her parents were William Braybrook born 1844, and Margaret Fubbs, born 1846. Albert & Ethel had seven children - Lewellyn, Albert, Doris, Daisy, Nellie, Bessie and Eric. 5. >From the "Mutch Index" William Brian arrived per "Pitt" in 1791 and also William Eaton arrived per "Admiral Barrington" in 1791 and it is stated in "Mutch", "it is more than probable William Brian & William Eaton are the same person. William Brian, Bryant, Briant was given as the father of John OBrian, Jane Charloyte Bryant, and Martha Brian, 1793, 1796, & 1798. 6. Charles William Bryant DOB not known, his son, Joseph Augustus Bryant DOB 3/8/1886 Nymagee, his son, Alexander Stanley Bryant DOB 2/8/1926 Dubbo 7. Walter & Mary Bryant arrived in Australia in 1841 per the "Earl Grey". Claude Bryant & Kathleen Crawley. Claude was the son of Walter & Dorothea nee Lucas. It is believed they had three children - John, and Mervyn who married Margaret Hegarty, who had a daughter Anne who married John Hausler. Mervyn's son Barry, had a son Michael who married Helen Trapp, and they had a son Graham. Our Bryant Family is documented in our homepage which you can see at - http://www.halenet.com.au/~jvbryant from the index page go to family history. Regards Joyce Bryant

I am still looking for connections to my grandfather Jonathan Alexander Bryant. I have just learned that he had a sister who was married to a Moxley, and then to a Matthews. There was a May Moxley who married a Hibdin. This was all in Oklahoma around Marshall County. I don't know my grandfather's sister's name, just that she married a Moxley and had several children by him. She was also married to a Matthews and had one child. It is also possible that he had a sister who married a Morgan and had two children by the names of John Morgan and Mary Morgan. My grandfather J.A. Bryant was born in Sept 1858, maybe in Alabama. He married Sarah Emaline Gray(she was born Dec 15, 1868) and they lived in Grayson County, Texas in the 1890's and moved to the area that is now known as Marshall County, Ok. Jonathan Alexander Bryant died in 1922, and Sara Emma(his wife) died in March of 1942. They are both buried at the Lark Cemetary in Marshall County, Ok. Their children were: 1. Oscar Bryant 2. Nora Bell Bryant b.June 18, 1894 died in Marshall County, Ok, Nov 1950 3. George William Bryant, Feb 2, 1887 in Grayson County, Texas, died July 19, 1938 in Marshall County, Ok 4. Sarah Ira Bryant March 18, 1888, Grayson County, Texas, Died Dec 26, 1929, in Marshall County, Ok. She married John R. Dewberry 5. Virgie Cordelia Bryant, b. Sept 21, 1897 died Sept 1974, buried at Lark Cemetary, married Henry McDonald 6. Carrie Bryant, b. March 31, 1899, died March 1976 in Ontario, Cal, married to Edward Stewart, and divorced from him. 7.Calvin Earl Bryant, b. Dec 17, 1908 in Marshall County, Ok, died Nov 1977, in Madill, Ok. Married to Laura Sweeden. Calvin Earl or Earl as he was known was my father. I'd really appreciate any help I could get on this. Christine Bryant Scott [email protected]

I am looking for information on Lewis Bryant, birth and place unknown. He was listed in the 1830 Choctaw Roll "Armstrong Roll" as a white man married to an indian. He was granted land in 1831 in Newton county, MS. by the treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek through his wife. His land was where the present day town of Hickory, MS is. I have documation of one son, Alfred Bryant b. 1802 Nelson County, KY married Nancy Ford b 1812 Ohio. Lewis had five children at home in 1831 in MS. 2 other sons, Louis and Billy, were to have gone to the Admore Indian Territory in the early 1830's. I have no documentation for them, nor do I know what Lewis' indian wife's name, the names of the childern at home, or where Lewis came from, or who were his parents. I would appreciate any information anyone might have. Eva Ashford

For American researchers of passenger lists. Just received this from another site and thought I'd post. You might want to check it out. Delores Riley IMMIGRANT SHIPS TRANSCRIBERS GUILD CELEBRATES ITS FIRST ANNIVERSARY BY OFFERING TO THE GENEALOGICAL COMMUNITY THE ISTG COMPASS <http://istg.rootsweb.com/> by Patty MacFarlane Prather <[email protected]> As mariners depended on their compass, you can count on this special section of the ISTG Web site, which will act as a guide for all and make navigating the roots of your family tree a little easier. Harriet Rosch, resource coordinator, and her crew: Mary Rigali, Sharon Richlen Ballard, Bette Dew, Faith Gibson Tegethoff, Jan Mann, Jane Stauff, Kathy Stice, Barbara T. Grimm, Pat Lisk, Lynn Faranda, Regina Landis, Pat Becker, Penny J. Sabin, Rose Robke, Ruth C. Hakala, Penny Jansen, Deb White, and Maia Cowen are to be applauded for this wonderful addition to the site. Researching the data included in the ISTG Compass took more hours than we can ever imagine. Sheila Jensen Tate, production coordinator, also spent countless hours designing this Web site. The ISTG Compass is a site for young and old alike, with some special attention given to young people who are discovering the value of studying their ancestors and what they left behind, what they endured on the voyage, and how they began to build a new life in a new land. Some of the categories designed to help in your research are: IMMIGRATION & NATURALIZATION BY COUNTRYPORTS & OTHER PLACES OF ENTRY ETHNIC AND IMMIGRATION RESOURCES MARITIME RESOURCES - MUSEUMS/LIBRARIES PASSENGER LIST SITES EMIGRANTS -- By Surname EMIGRANTS -- By Group SHIPS SHIP TYPES & DESCRIPTIONS INDIVIDUAL SHIPS WITH THEIR OWN SITES SHIPPING LINES SHIP IMAGES (These are sites where you may view ship and nautical images/photographs/prints/etc.) SHIPWRECKS BIBLIOGRAPHIES, ARTICLES and MEMOIRS MAIL LISTS SITES OF GENERAL MARITIME INTEREST JUST FOR FUN and MISCELLANEOUS VOLUNTEER HELP SOME OF OUR EMAIL (A few thank you notes for our first year) ACRONYMS and DEFINITIONS -- coming soon. The ISTG Compass will be an ongoing project. The research began 10 months ago and is likely to continue for as many more. One year ago on September 15, 1998, a small group of volunteers began the difficult task of transcribing manifests from the National Archives and Records Administration, putting them on the Web site generously provided to ISTG by RootsWeb, where they would be freely available to all. Today, the Immigrant Ships Transcribers Guild is 450 members strong, has completed its first volume of 1,000 ships' passenger lists, and is almost 500 ships into the second volume of 1,000 passenger lists. ISTG staff members Patty MacFarlane Prather, guild coordinator; Sheila Jensen Tate, productions coordinator; Pam O'Day, surname coordinator; Harriet Rosch, resources coordinator; Marie M. Davis and Mary Beth Arthur, coordinators of new volunteers; Meg Sibbrensen, interpretations coordinator; and David Anderson, correspondence coordinator have given many hours of their time and effort each day to the guild, its volunteers, and its Web site since the first list was uploaded on October 1, 1998. "Each and every guild member is essential to our success," says Patty MacFarlane Prather, guild coordinator. "In addition to the staff members, many volunteers take on the additional tasks of formatting the lists, managing data, and serving on various committees and crews which are critical to the daily operations of this highly visited Web site, which now receives more than 2,000 hits each day." The guild has received thousands of thank you notes from researchers who are grateful to find a Web site devoted to adding passenger lists to the Internet at no cost to them. "We are very grateful to the have the ongoing support and cooperation of Brian Leverich and Karen Isaacson and the RootsWeb staff, Sue Swiggum of Ships-L and Debbie Beavis of Mariners-L, with whom we have a good working relationship, and many other Webmasters with whom we have reciprocal sharing of information in order that it gets maximum exposure." "Like raising a child," Patty concludes, "it takes a village. While the work can be exhausting, the cost of maintaining the project expensive, and the deciphering of the lists frustrating, the rewards are great. I am honored to be working with a group of dedicated and selfless people who share a common passion." You can visit the ISTG Compass at: <http://istg.rootsweb.com>
