> Dawes Final Rolls The Dawes Commission was organized in 1893 to accept applications for tribal enrollment between 1899 and 1907 (some were added as late as 1914), mostly from Indians who resided in the Indian Territory which later became the State of Oklahoma. Tribal membership entitled qualified individuals to land allotments from the U.S. Government. These enrollment records were eventually published as the Dawes Commision, also known as The Five Civilized Tribes, which consisted of the Cherokee, Choctaw, Chikasaw, Crow, Creek and Seminole Tribes. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Hello list: In September 1999 I visited the Mt. Moriah Cemetery located south of Salem, Marion Co., IL. My gggrandfather and gggrandmother, Cheatham O'Briant (1799-1879) and Louisa Catherine Smith O'Briant (1812-1893) are buried there. There are also Bryants buried in the same cemetery. In the hope that this information might help someone seeking these persons, I will post the names and dates that were on the headstones. Blanch Bryant 1895-1994 William Bryant 1883-1883 Della Bryant 1884-1892 Mother Lusinda Briant 1822-1872 Father James D. Bryant 1819-1873 **Lusinda & James had a common headstone which had a smaller marker at each corner. Those markers are: upper left= F; lower left=B; upper right=W; lower right=B. On a three-sided marker with the name BRYANT at the top, the following were given: south side: James A., born Oct. 30, 1863; died Mar. 30, 1866 front: Mary L., born Apr. 26, 1869; died Sep. 1871 north side: Infant son, born Mar. 23, 1871 Although I have seen my O'Briant ancestors name spelled O'Bryant, Briant, Bryant, Brien, Brian, etc., I would doubt that these Bryants are related to my O'Briants; however, I'm saving this information just in case a definite link turns up at a later date.
