I received this from another name list and thought I'd pass it on. Good luck in your search, Louise Bryant Rogers Researching, BAILEY, BARNES, BRETTY, BRYANT, CANNON, CASH, COLIER/COLLIER, DERRYBERRY, DUNCAN, FORD, GARRISON, HARVILLE, SEXTON, SHIRLEY, RIGSBY, ROGERS, WALTER, WARDLAW Here is some basic information intended for researchers ordering a pension or military record for the first time. This is the URL for the current web page that tells how to order the order forms from the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). http://www.nara.gov/research/ordering/ordrfrms.html A "pension" record is not the same as a "military" record. It's important which one you order. The "pension" record is the one that contains the most genealogical information. This contains a man's (or widow or dependent's) application, giving identifying information about the applicant and the military service performed: usually complete date of birth, place of birth, date and place of entry into service, military unit designation. Often contains questionnaires filled out by the pensioner with name of spouse and children, date and place of marriage. When the pensioner is dropped from the pension roll because of death, the complete death date is often given in the "drop report". Ordering the "military" record can be disappointing. It may contain little biographical information - possibly only the man's name, age and residence at enlistment, where he entered the service, unit designation, rank attained, where and when discharged. Sometimes they show where the man was born. Shows the man's whereabouts during his period in the service. May give details on temporary duty assignments, illnesses or wounds received and show where and when hospitalized. Papers are "selected" from a file to be copied and sent to you, and there is no guarantee that you'll receive those that may be of most importance to you. You'll never know exactly what treasures are in a pension record unless you order the entire file. Depending on the size of the file, it may be expensive to order. My understanding is that effective September 1, 2000, the entire file will be sent when ordering, and the fee at that time for copies will be $17.50. For information on new fees, see NARA's web site at http://www.nara.gov/nara/fees-pro.html
I am searching for anyone who is relared to or suspects they are related to William Bryan d 1806 and wife Letty Asher. I have several "hard" sources of information about him and his ancestors that I would be willing to share. BTW check out my webged at my homepage. Ed
I really need some help. I am new to this list. The area is Grayson Co., Va. The time is about 1833, People: Lydia Bryant and Amanda Davis The story: My uncle Granville Coomes, gone now, said that his stepmother, my grandmother, was Amanda Davis Coomes and her mother was Lydia Bryant Davis. Her father was John Davis. I have no proof of this. From all records I have found Lydia did not raise Amanda. Our Amanda Davis was 17 years old in 1850, Grayson Co., Va. census. She was living with Toliver and Edna Davis Galyean. I don't know the relationship but I don't think they are sisters. I don't have parents for either Amanda or Edna. According to later census Amanda's parents were born in NC and Edna's parents were born in Va. In 1857 Amanda married my ggrandfather, James T. Coomes in Ashe Co., NC., lived for a time in Surry Co., NC. then returned to Grayson Co., Va. In 1870 Lydia Davis, who Uncle Granville said was Lydia Bryant, was living with In 1852 Amanda Davis 17 years old was living with John Davis, 1/2 Cherokee, in Paine Town, Haywood Co., NC. as his daughter. She was likely the daughter of his half brother who was full Cherokee as that is a Cherokee thing. We do not know if that is our Amanda but seems likely. The question is, can anyone tell me if a Lydia Bryant somewhere could be the mother of Amanda Davis. Patience

I don't usually responed to the virus warnings but I have checked this out and it is for real. I have checked with three relieable websites that have all comfirmed that this is real. However this is not a virus but a worm much like the happy99. If you or anyone you know already has the worm you can go to the following website and download a cleaner that will remove the worm from your puter. http://www.getvirushelp.com/ Debbie At 01:15 PM 5/4/00 EDT, [email protected] wrote: >ON MY TELEVISION (ABC) JUST NOW APPEARED A "BREAKING NEWS FLASH" STATING THAT >IN OUR AREA (TULSA) MAJOR COMPANY'S HAVE SHUT DOWN THEIR SYSTEMS BECAUSE OF A >VIRUS CALLED "I LOVE YOU" >THEY CALLED IT A VERY DANGEROUS VIRUS CAUSING MAJOR EXPENSE. I recently posted a query here for my Bryant-Robinson line and have had replies asking for dates. This is what I have: I know that Mary and Elizabeth Bryant were children of a Mathilda. I don't have ANY information on Mary (my great-grandmother) but Lizzie was born 19 Jan 1847 in Missouri. Her father's last name was Bryant and her mother's Robinson. She died 28 Aug 1934 in Vinita, Ok. She was the wife of D.W. Buffington and was married to him 6 Sept. 1885. They were married down in Skullyville. At the time Lizzie's last name was McKinney then and the McKinney she married was a Choctaw and she was adopted into the Choctaw tribe. My grandfather, John Henry Warden, was born 22 Dec. 1884 in or around Fort Smith, Ark. He was the son of Mary Bryant Pairick and Cecil Warden. Apparently Mary and Cecil were dead by about 1890 and John was taken from the reservation (I've been told it was the Cherokees he was living with) by his half-brother William Harvey Pairick/Parrick. Harvey was born 25 July 1875 and he died 5 June 1933. On his death certificate his father is listed as Dan Pairick and his mother Millie (Mary) Bryant. Harvey lived in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and was married to Maud Castillo. They had one daughter named Esther and she was married to an Ainsworth. Harvey died from injuries in a car accident in Bartlesville in June 1933. In an article about the wreck it says that he was with the Indian Service in 1921-23 and that he was a peace officer from 1909. That is all the information I have on Harvey or Mary, his mother. I do have a copy from a page in his bible that mentions the last names: Bryant, Robinson, & Morgan. This is from his maternal line. If anyone has even a scrap of information I will be forever grateful. Barbara Windrup
Hello all! I live in Cincinnati, OH and I will be making a trip to WVA the first weekend in June for the "June meetin'" of a church on Queen's Ridge in Wayne Co. I will be there May 31 and June 1-4. I also hope to do some research in Lincoln & Logan Counties, at least. Does anyone know if there is a genealogical society for each county? Where do I go for info, the courthouse, a library, or both? What type of info is held in the counties? The names that I am researching are: Bryant (Ball family married to Bryants), Dalton, Dawson, Ellerd, Honaker, Isaacs, Jackson (family married to Bryants), Marrs, Maynard-two branches, Maxwell, McCloud, Nelson, Pack, Pinson, Queen, Ratliff, Vance, Wellman-family of Lindsey, and Workman. I love to meet those related, gather stories, and old pictures. I do this research for my enjoyment, to share with other family members, and to give my children/grandchildren a personal feeling of their roots. This is not to produce any book or to make money. While in the area, I'll be happy to obtain information for others unable to make that trip! Terri Davis Cincinnati, OH
