    1. Did David Brumbaugh of Washington Co., MD, really die in 1842?

    3. According to “Genealogy of the Brumbach Families” by Gaius Brumbaugh, David Brumbaugh of Washington County, Maryland, was born March 17, 1776, and died April 23, 1842. He married Eve Kissecker in 1805 and founded the town of Middleburg (now State Line), Maryland. Recently the Kittochtinny Historical Society of Franklin Co, PA, printed some marriage announcements from the Franklin Telegraph / Chambersburg Times newspaper for November 22, 1841. The Brumbaugh entry of interest to me was: “Married on the 20th of Sept., by the Rev. J. Rebaugh, Mr. Lewis Barr, to Miss Caroline Brumbaugh, daughter of the late David Brumbaugh, all of Washington County, MD.” Records I have seen indicate there was only one adult David Brumbaugh living in Washington County around 1840, and I would expect that he was likely the father of Caroline Brumbaugh Barr. The contradiction of course then is that David died in 1842 after the marriage of his daughter in 1841, despite the newspaper account indicating he had already died by the time of the wedding. I’m confident the date of the newspaper article is correct. Does anyone have an original source reference for the death date of David Brumbaugh, so I can verify that April 23, 1842, is correct? Or does anyone have any suggestions for trying to solve this apparent contradiction? Thanks for your help, Jim
