Dear Listers, Having just subscribed, I thought I might explain my connection. I am a descendant of Betsy Bruce Drake Vallandingham. It took years to find this out. I must be kind of dumb. Betsy gave three of her sons and maybe a fourth the middle name "Bruce." I think she was trying to tell future generations something. Betsy was born in Culpeper Co., VA on April 9, 1770, according to family records. Her mother was most likely Anne Nancy Bruce, the daughter of William Bruce and Elizabeth Grant of Stafford Co., VA. Henry Bruce, cousin of Betsy, mentioned her in his diary in 1818. I have an article coming out in Heritage Quest magazine in the July-August issue about Betsy's naming of her children. Tom Fiske
