I am looking for seveal BRUCEs in or around Norfolk. I do not know if it would be Norfolk County or Norfolk the City. However, I am looking information relating to: 1: GEORGE BRUCE who advertised in the VIRGINIA GAZETTE, dated April 20, 1775, which reads "The subscriber begs leave to inform the public that he now commands the sloop Agnes, about 1800 bushels burthen, a prime sailor, & well built, with good accomodation for passengers; he proposes to follow the country trade in common, & for the most part, Rappahannock River. He will be humbly obliged to all gentlemen who choose to honor him with their commands; he proposes to make it his delight & study to oblige all who confide in his integrity. Signed GEORGE BRUCE. N.B. He will never refuse a convenient freight to New York or Philadelphia & may at any time be heard of by directing a few lines to the care of Mrs. Ann WINTERTON in Norfolk." I am interested in knowing who this George BRUCE was, and any information relating to the sloop AGNES. There was an Ann BRUCE in Richmond Co VA who married a WINTERTON. Would this be the same Ann WINTERTON mentioned above? The second BRUCE I am interested in is John BRUCE who advertised in the VIRGINIA GAZETTE dated 1 March 1783 as follows: "John BRUCE at Norfolk advertises for sale a vessel to be launched about the end of March." Because both of these BRUCEs were involved with ships, is there a relationship between the two? Thank you very much for your time and information. Bea Hudson
