Researchers have tried to solve the mystery and identification of the first Alexander BRUCE found in Amelia County VA. Speculation could be that the Alexander BRUCE who was a Jacobite, who was arrested and sent to the colonies in 1716, unindentured was the father of our Alexander BRUCE? There are other BRUCES in Southside VA, but no positive proof has been found to determine their relationship. This Deed of Gift was recorded 42 years before Alexander Jr died, proving that the Alexander Sr was his father. No one old and helpless, giving all of his property away, could have lived 42 more years, married three more times, and sired at least 15 more children, amassed slaves, and thousands of acres of land. This has to be our immigrant ancestor! Am always open to discussions. ...whether pro or con Amelia Co. VA "Deed of Gift.
