    3. Thomas ROWLETT married Lucy BRUCE on 19 October 1807 Prince Edward Co. VA. Lucy was daughter of Alexander BRUCE and Ann PENICK. Rockingham Co. NC Will Book B Pages 263-265 Written 15 January 1840 Probated August Court 1840 "I Thomas ROWLETT, of the County of Rockingham and State of No. Carolina, being of sound mind and memory, but considering the uncertainty of my earthly existence, do make and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following, this is to say, First that my executors hereafter named shall provide for my body a decent burial suitable to the wishes of my relations and friends, and pay all funeral expenses together with my just debts howsoever and to whom same owing out of the monies that may first come into their hands as a part or parcel of my estate. Item. I lend to my beloved wife, Lucy ROWLETT, all of my estate real and personal during her natural life except such part as I shall hereinafter otherwise dispose of. Item. I give to my eldest son Peter Mc ROWLETT one grey horse called Bob to have and to hold to him and his heirs forever, which said horse is now in his possession. Item. I give to my son Vivaldi, one sorrel horse called Wattington to him and his heirs, now in his possession. And it is further my will and desire that my executors hereinafter named permit my two sons, Peter Mc ROWLETT and Vivaldi to manage my farm and lands and out of the proceeds of my farm and lands, my two sons, aforesaid, are to provide a decent support for their mother during her life, and it is also my will and desire that my sons out of the above said means do provide a decent support for my two daughters, Missouri Bruce and Lucy Benson during the natural life of their mother or until they marry. I give and bequeath to my two daughters, Missouri and Lucy, one good bed and furniture each to be raised out of my estate. Item. It is my will and desire that my two sons, Peter Mc and Vivaldi after providing for my wife and two daughters as hereinbefore directed shall have all the profits arising from my farm and lands as aforesaid as a consideration for their services. It is my wish that if there should not be sufficent funds in hand or due to me at the time of my death to satisfy all my just claims against me then in that event I wish my executors hereinafter named to sell such property on a credit of nine months as my wife and two sons my think they can best spare in order to satisfy and pay all my just debts. Item. I give and bequeath to my three daughters who are now married, each one bed and furniture to them and their heirs which they now have in their possession. Item. It is my will and desire that after the death of my wife Lucy, that my property both real and personal not herinbefore given to my children, shall be equally divided among and between all my children to-wit: Elvira GUERRANT, Bellermia PATTERSON, Ann PATTERSON, Missouri ROWLETT, Peter Mc ROWLETT, Vivaldi ROWLETT and Lucy Benson ROWLETT, share and share alike, and lastly I do nominate, constitute and appoint my two sons-in-law, Peter D. GUERRANT and Wm C. PATTERSON executors to this my last will and testament, in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this fifteenth day of January in the year of our Lord, Eighteen hundred and forty.
