The only Bruce in my line that I know for sure about is my gr-grandmother, MAHULDIA BRUCE. She married JOHN WESLEY FURGERSON (or, perhaps Ferguson, Farguson, or some such original spelling). From all I can find out, they were both born in Tennessee, but I don't know what county. I believe from studying census records in the 1820s, 30s, 40s, that they may have been from Lincoln County, TN. There were a lot of Bruces and Fergusons living near each other and I can identify ages of m/f that would have matched my John and Mahuldia. They were born in 1815/16. They appear first in the Hopkins County, Ky census in 1860, but one of their children was born in Hopkins County in 1854. I have been unable to find them in the 1850 census in either Kentucky or Tennessee. I have been trying to connect Mahuldia to Bruces who were in Hopkins County. According to census records, the following were there in the following years: 1820 Abner, Cader, Dunning, John, Jonathan, Milly 1830 Abner, John, Cader 1840 Abner, Cader, Milly, Jeremiah 1850 Thomas Bruce (21, from Ireland, living in household of David Clark) Abner Bruce, Jr., 60, from North Carolina Andrew Bruce, 27, b Kentucky Henry Bruce, 22, from Ireland, living in household of Nathaniel Medlock 1860 Jeramiah Bruce, 41, born in Ky Cader Bruce,. 20, born in Kentucky Andrew Bruce, 39, born in Ky There are others in the 1860 census, I'm sure, but I don't have a complete copy of it. If anyone can connect any of these Bruces to their Bruces, I'd be appreciative. I have not been able to connect my MAHULDIA BRUCE to any of them but do believe that there was some relationship. I do not know anything about my JOHN FURGERSON's ancestors, either. Thanks. Joyce
