1) William Bruce-b abt 1797-1800. I believe he was born at sea while emigrating from Scotland, possibly to Virginia. m-Hannah Mease abt 1830 in Pennsylvania d-abt 1870-1880 in Illinois. A lot of this information is suspected but not proven. I have several census records that indicate various places of birth (Virginia, Scotland and 3 that indicate "at sea" or "on the ocean". He disappears in between the 1870 and 1880 census and the son he was living with moved to Benton County, Iowa. Hannah disappears between the 1860 and 1870 census. 10-12 children born to this union. 2) Christina b-4/2/1833 in Centre County, PA. m-Daniel Reubin Clay 3/22/1858 Jo Daviess County, Illinois. d-1/20/1906. They had 10 children. (Latala, Mary B., John, William, James, Walter, Milton, George, Kiner, and Crissie) 2)James b-abt. 1835. Family history ties this man to William and Hannah, but I have no proof. He married Lovie Brighiot (sp). They have 3 children. (Sarah Jane, W.E., and Stalia (sp)) 2) *George b-5/9/1836 in Huntingdon County, PA. m-12/24/1868 in JoDavies County, IL to Harriet Maples, dgt of Daniel and Pauline Millett Maples. d-2/7/1912 in Benton County, Iowa. 7 children (George "Fred", *Frank, Edward, Irvin, Byron, Ada, and Cora). 2)Catherine b-abt 1838 in PA. found only on 1850 census. 2)Hannah b-abt 1840 in PA. 1870 in Linn Co., Iowa. Last known in Kansas in 1906 at time of eldest sister's death. 2)William H. b-3/15/1842 in Huntingdon County, PA. m-Jennie V. Burlingham 1/4/1872 in Linn Co., Iowa. d-4/13/1909 in Anamosa, Jones Co., Iowa. 11 children (Clinton, Mary Elizabeth, Jennie L., Belle Bernice, Ora, Lee, Lemuel, Harry, Hattie, Pearl and Golda) 2)Jacob b-abt 1843 found only in 1850 census. 2)Sarah b-abt 1846 in PA. Last known in Kansas in 1906 at time of eldest sister's death. 2)Amelia b-abt 1847 in PA. Believed to be in Linn County, Iowa in 1870 census. 2)Harriet b-abt 1850 in PA. m-Whitman Coal Gifford 9/4/1871 in Linn Co., Iowa. Last known in Missouri in 1914 when a widows pension was filed on the death of her husband 5 known children (George, James, Cornielius, Isiah, William) 2)John "Wells" b-1855 in PA or Illinois (most likely Illinois). m-4/25/1880 to Marie B. Sneath, in Illinois or Iowa. d-5/23/1925 in Franklin County, Iowa. 8 children (Roy, Martha, William Wallace, Charles, George, John, Delbert, Clifford) 2) Latlia b-abt 1859 in Illinois. Last known in Kansas at time of eldest sister's death in 1906. 3)*Franklin Jefferson Bruce(George, William) b-10/22/1871 in Benton Co., Iowa. m-Mary Louise Welbes on 1/12/1897 in Benton Co., Iowa. d-3/12/1910in Benton Co., Iowa. Mary remarried to Frank Polking several years later (they had no children). 5 children were born to Frank and Mary Bruce (Margaret, James, *George "Robert", Genevieve, and Christine). 4)George Robert Bruce was my grandfather. 5)Clarence "Dale" Bruce is my father.
