    3. Hi Bob, Sorry, no help from this West Virginian... I think you wrote me awhile back and asked the same question. The more letters I read the more I realize just how HUGE the Bruce Tree is. Canada, Austrailia, South America, Ga., La, Ky., Indiana...etc..etc.. This is one big clan. It is no wonder we as a group, have so much trouble tracing lineage, what with all the "same name" syndrome and then seeing that a birthplace or deathplace took place in an area that looks like there must be a connection just because they lived in the same area as someone else's line. Here is what I have (Which isn't much): Name: John Bruce ---------------------------------------- Birth: 7 Sep 1690 Portsoy, Baiff Co. Scotland Death: 4 Nov 1747 Fredrick Co. Virginia Spouse: Sarah Parrell ---------------------------------------- Children: ---------------------------------------- 1 F: Mary Bruce Birth: 1719 Aberdeen, Scotland Death: 1772 Fredrick County, Va Spouse: William Albin Marriage: 1748 Spotsylvania, Fredrick Co. Virginia ---------------------------------------- 2 M: James Bruce Sr.(***) Birth: abt 1720 Scotland Death: 1795 Nelson Co. Ky. Spouse: Margaret McMahon Marriage: 10 Jun 1744 Fredricksburg, Spotsylvania Co. Virginia ---------------------------------------- 3 M: George Bruce (*) Birth: 1722 Scotland Death: 30 Jun 1800 Fredrick Co. Virginia Spouse: Rachel Littler Marriage: abt 1750 Fredrick Co. Virginia ---------------------------------------- 4 M: John Bruce(**) Birth: abt 1723 ---------------------------------------- 5 F: Anne Bruce Birth: abt 1725 Death: 4 Feb 1808 Uniontown, Fayette Co., Pa. Spouse: James McCoy Marriage: 1745 Fredrick Co. Virginia ---------------------------------------- 6 F: Margaret Bruce Birth: abt 1727 Scotland Spouse: Richard Carter Marriage: 1747 Spotsylvania, Fredrick Co. Virginia Notes for Sarah Parrell Have also seen her last name listed as Coles... Notes for James (Child 2) Ref: My first recollection that I have of my ancestors was hearing my grandfather, James Bruce, telling that himself and a younger brother, George Bruce, came from Scotland about the year 1740. My grandfather located in Winchester, Virginia. He was a house carpenter by trade and I have heard him say that he built the first frame house that was ever built in that town. About the year 1744 he married Margaret McMahon and moved to the north branch of the Potomac in Maryland. He continued there following his trade and farming until he raised a large family of children. ---------------------------------------- Last Modified: 18 Jan 2001 Created: 20 Feb 2001 (*) George Bruce.... Given the date of birth of your Bemjamin B. it would be possible for him to be a child to George, however I have no information on George except the little piece above. (**) John Bruce...All I have is listed above (***) James Bruce is my direct ancestor and I have no listing of any Benjamin Bruce. Of James' children the oldest Child, William, who was born in 1745, was married in 1771. The other two male children, James and George(believed to be twins), were born and married to late to be the parents of the man you seek. James b.1760; M. 1778.....George b.1760, no marriage date available. In my direct line I have only one listing of a Bruce Daughter marrying another "Bruce" and this took place in the 1820's. They were Polly Lucas Bruce d/o William Bruce Jr. and Sarah Polk. Polly Married a man by the name of Squire Bruce, so that of course is of no help to you either. I wish you the best and am sorry I couldn't help you out.
