KY. > **According to the Memoirs of James Bruce's Grandson, William Bruce, >he [James] came from Scotland about the year 1740 along with his brother >George*** I am just getting started with Bruce research but have been told that Elizabeth BRUCE, wife of Nathaniel S. HAGGARD, was b. c. 1783, VA, d. 1853, Clark Co., KY. She was a dau. of Benjamin BRUCE and Mildred WATTS of Virginia. Benjamin , b. c. 1751, was a son of George BRUCE, b. c. 1725. Could this George be the same George BRUCE mentioned above? Roberta rsharp@csupomona.edu

    3. Hi Roberta, I wish I could tell you more, but I have no information to offer up on the George Bruce you ask about. I cannot remember who exactly who I recieved the information from but I know it is not verfied with any sources( well, at least none were listed in the info sent to me). I have the George Bruce you speak of being born about 1722 in Scotland, which fits into your time line. I have this George Bruce as being married to one Rachel Littler in the year 1750 which also clicks. It would be interesting to know if this information we are looking at is actually what we think it might be. There is a gentlemen by the name of Bob Moore searching for information on a Benjamin B. Bruce b abt 1768/1770.d in 1822 in Catahoula Parish, LA. I just recently sent him an e-mail stating that it might be possible for the Benjamin he is seeking to be the son of George but had no way to back it up. I live in West Virginia, about a half hour from VA and MD and have found several references to the Bruce's in this area. I.E. Brucetown, VA. only 20 minutes from me. Along with marriages that took place in Spotsylvania, PA., Fredricksburg, VA. Fredrick MD, and Berkley Co., West Virginia (Which is the county I live in ) which of course was VA at the time. I look forward to your correspondence in the future and hope that mabey we can make a connection Best Regards and Happy Ancestor Hunting!
