Robert de BRUCE (or BRUS), King Robert I of Scotland, was the father of a number of children, most illegitimate. His legitimate son David, by his second wife, Elizabeth de BURGH, became king after Robert's death, but left no legal heirs to the throne. Robert's daughter Marjorie, by his first wife, Isabel de Mar, m. Walter STEWART/STEWARD and was the foremother of the line of Scottish kings of the House of Stewart, starting with her son Robert II, and including Mary, Queen of Scots, and James VI who, after the death of Elizabeth I, inherited the English throne and became James I of England. Queen Elizabeth II has inherited the blood of The BRUCE through her mother, the late Queen Mother Elizabeth, daughter of the House of Bowes-Lyon. Fascinating stuff, eh?
