    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Bruce Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/XOG.2ACIB/1261 Message Board Post: The following appeared in The Western Herald and Farmer’s magazine, Volume I, Sandwich, Upper Canada, Number 34. Tuesday, October 16, 1838 “We noticed about a fortnight ago, the unfortunate situation in which many of those who migrated from Canada to Iowa, found themselves placed on their arrival in that new, and as it has proved, insalubrious country.—We have since been informed that about thirty of them died shortly afterwards,—among whom a medical gentleman who accompanied them, Dr. Bruce, in charge of some families. Several of the deceased have left widows and children in a very destitute and hapless state. “During Dr. Bruce’s short stay in Toronto, on his return from Iowa, he was suffering under severe illness, and having reached his former home in the Eastern part of this Province, he died, two days after. We see his death noticed in the last Cornwall Observer, as having taken place at Osnabruck on the 20th ult., aged 42 years.—Ib.” Sandwich is in Essex county, Ontario, and is today part of Windsor. I have no interest in Bruce genealogy, and am just posting this as a service to those who do.
