This is probably a real long shot but I might have info that Nancy is looking for on the Bruce who was a judge in Mississippi and a book written on the family. My Judge Bruce was in Alabama and died around the turn of the century. At any rate, if not helpful to Nance, maybe it will be of some use to another on the list. I have a John Bruce (b. 16 Feb 1832 d. 1 Oct 1901) who ended up as a judge of the US District Court of Alabama. He was stationed in Mississippi during the Civil War (hense maybe it's the judge you are looking for) and decided to stay in the area ending up in Montgomery, AL. This family stems from three brothers (James, William and Alexander) who with their families came over from Scotland between 1840 and 1842 and initially settled in Wayne County, Ohio. Judge John Bruce is the grandson of the brother James. The book I found on this family is titled: Wallace-Bruce and Related Families, author is James Wallace (related to this line), publisher Mohn Printing Company, Northfield MN copyright 1930. It filled in a lot of holes for me... though I'm still checking for better sources for confirmation (the never ending battle) If anyone wants (or has) further information on this line of Bruces, I'd love to correspond with you. I would like to join in this search because I believe my James Bruce who was born in 1808, probably in Sumner County TN was a member of this family or of the family of Robert Bruce. I believe this James lived a few years in Sumner Co. at the same time his brothers William and Robert were there. William remained, James moved to Bedford Co., and Robert moved to IL. I'd like to hear more on this. Joyce
Ceridwen, I see that your JAMES BRUCE died in Chapel Hill,Bedford Co,Tn..Chapel Hill is in Marshall County, not very far from the Bedford County line. However,at the time of his death (1822) it may have been in Bedford Co. I wish I could tell you I have his ancestors, but, instead I believe I have part of his descendants. The deceased members of this family are all buried in the Simmons Family Cemetery in Williamsn Co,Tn.This is an area which is also close to the Marshall Co. line. The name James was so popular in this family, that James Moses Bruce named his oldest James Helton (died 1994) and his youngest son James Moses Jr.(born abt. 1934). They were called "Son" and "Mose". In your info,do you see a possible link?I would love the info you have about your James' grandchildren. Teresa Beech 1. JAMES MOSES1 BRUCE was b.Jan 29, 1892, d. I am looking for a federal judge in Mississippi whose surname was Bruce. I don't have any dates but would guess within the last 50 years. And I don't know where he was located. But he wrote a family history of his Bruce line which I would like to acquire. Any help would be appreciated. Nancy

In my original post I mistakingly listed the wrong children for the John Bruce which I am researching. Listed below is the corrected version: Hi All, I am searching for the ancestors of George Bruce, born circa 1720 in Orange County, VA. He married Elizabeth Quinn about 1742. Elizabeth was the daughter of Darby Quinn. George and Elizbeth's known (to me) children were George,Jr., Elizabeth (Betty), and Martha. Mostly from information posted on various Internet mailing lists and/or Web Pages, I have come up with the following possible ancestorial line for George: George's Parents: John Bruce, born ca 1690, possibly in Scotland, lived for awhile in Charles County, MD., died about 1752 in Albemarle County, VA married (1) Unknown (possibly Sarah ?) children (if any by his first wife) are unknown and married (2) Margaret Frazier John Bruce's Parents: Henry Bruce, born about 1664, location unknown, lived in Richmond County, VA (at least for awhile), death date unknown married Mary Morton, date unknown children unknown, except possibly John Henry Bruce's Parents: William Bruce, born about 1630?, location unknown, died before Dec 1683 his wife's name is also unknown I am looking for help in determining if this is the correct linage for George Bruce and also in positively identifying spouses and children of John, Henry, and William Bruce. I have a Web Page on this George Bruce's descendants at: http://members.xoom.com/cconn/index.htm if any of you would care to visit it. Any information would be appreciated. Clyde F. Conner, Sr.
I am seeking information on JAMES BRUCE of Nelsonville, Athens Co. Ohio. He was born in England around 1820 and died in Athens Co. OH on 11/25/1881. He married ELIZABETH WOODS of Perry Co. OH. They had at least three children, all born in Athens Co; DAVID, born in 1854; MARY, born about 1861; and Benjamin, born 1863 and died 1949. I have James' death record and and his listing in the 1880 census. I'm hoping to learn when he came to America and any other information about his parents, siblings and children, other than David. Thanks Kathy Nelson Tempe, AZ
