I came across Patrick Bruce on the Bruce Family Genealogy Forum. He was born 1595-1600 and is listed as the father of James Bruce, b. 1634. James was the father of Thomas born 6/11/1664, and Thomas was the father of John Bruce, born September 7, 1690. Has anyone come across this information, or any documentation of the same? I would be interested in hearing from you. Carol Geiss
Hi all, This is in reply to a January post: ---post here---reply follows Francis Marion Bruce b. 4/15/1850 somewhere in TX d. 10/21/1918 in Cedar Rapids, IA. Married Amanda Jane Harris (don't know where or when). Also do not know Amanda's parents. However, she died (probably in Washington Co., AR) between 1899-1905 Francis Marion's parents were Peter Bruce and Sarah Carlock who were married in Madison Co., IL on June 21, 1838. I do not know the names of any siblings of Francis Marion. <snip> If any of these people sound familiar to you, please contact me at: SharonN449@aol.com ---reply--- Hi Sharon, Check the 1850 TX Grayson census, p. 351, family 175: P.M. Bruce is with Sarah and their 3 chn, Wm. N., Jno. S. and F.M. However, F.M. is 7, so there's a date discrepancy with your info. Peter (Mosely I've heard) Bruce md.2 Rachel Miller. In the 1860 TX Grayson census, p. 216, fam 1140 are Peter and Rachel M., with his kids by Sarah: Wm. N., John S., Francis M. (ae17); her kids by first marriage to J.C. Caylor: John H., Joseph B., Ruben S., George T(homas); and their kids together: Sarah Ann, Jas. K. Polk, Amanda C. In the 1880 TX Grayson census, p. 325, fam 163 are Peter M., Rachel, James K., Amanda, Albert L. In 1880 TX Grayson, p. 325, fam 154 are Francis M. (ae30) and Amanda J. The birthplace on F.M. is TX in 1850, IL in 1860, TX in 1880. Anyway, Peter M. Bruce is the son of Seabourn Bruce and Elizabeth (Payne, I've seen, but not confirmed), who went to IL from NC. Seabourn is the son of Peter Bruce and Rachel (Wilson, I've seen, but not confirmed). You'll find all this family in Wake and then Iredell NC. Old Peter died about 1802-3, I can't get my hands on the exact dates of his will right now, but it's in LDS film 0548978 NC Iredell Devisee index 1788-1965 Bruce Peter to Arnold, Gelby, Joel, Wilson,Seaborn, Rachel, Philip, Peter E. 1802, BK1 p.78 [other daus named by md names: Lucretia Mose(l/b)y, Sarah Gill] It looks like old Peter may be the son of Peter and Mary Bruce of Halifax NC, but I haven't really found or seen real proof yet. He d. 1762, will names son Peter and others. So, there's a bit to get you going on your research. I'm writing this fast because I'm leaving tomorrow for research in SLC and then points east, won't be back til September. Good luck! Pam in CA

Current exchange rate is about $1.60 US = 1 British Pound. (That includes Scotland.) That would be the price if you walked into a bank and wanted to exchange, say, traveller's checks of one to cash of the other. What extra charges or fees might be tacked on to that for the use of a credit card, I don't know. Rates can vary from day to day; current trend seems to be for the pound to go down slightly--today it's $1.60, next week it might $1.59, for example. *CERIDWEN* On Mon, 14 Jun 1999, Barb Foley wrote: > Can anyone tell me how do I know how much I'd be paying in Scotland to > United States money. I am looking for information on an ALLEN BRUCE. Know that he married Pernecia PRICE 12/30/1841 in Hopkins County, Kentucky. He died in 1859. Pernecia PRICE remarried in 1860 to a William WILLIAMS in Hopkins/Webster Co., KY. She is found in 1860 Webster Co., KY Census at age 38 married to William Williams in the census year. I have no further information on Allen BRUCE but would love to find him. Does anyone recognize this Bruce? Who are his parents, siblings, etc.? Will share what info I have on descendants of Allen and Pernecia's daughter, Amanda Malvina (my great-grandmother). Jackie
Hello all! I'm also looking for a Samuel Bruce. Samuel Bruce was born about 1816 in Pennsylvania. I have no idea as to which area of the state. All I really know is that his son Stephen Bruce was born in 1843 in Troy Township of Fountain County, Indiana. I have been unable to locate Samuel and Elizabeth Bruce in the 1850 census records, but think that they may have moved to Missouri. I think that Stephen Bruce may have also been called Nathan Bruce. I have a copy of the marriage license of Stephen Bruce and Anna Jane Tribbitt, but the marriage records list a Nathan Bruce and Jane Tribbitt as being married on that date and in that place. So was his name Stephen Nathan Bruce or Nathan Stephen Bruce? Family lore has it that Stephen ran away to join the Union Army by hiding in one of their wagons. He was not discovered until the next day, and since they couldn't make the trip to take him home, they mustered him in and let him serve as their bugel boy. I think the army may have fudged on his age as the story related he was 15 or 16 at the time he ran away. Mustered into Military at Indianapolis on Sept. 17, 1862 for a term of three years by Captain Pomeroy of the United States Army. Age 18. Eyes: grey Hair: light Height: 6' Complexion: fair Nativity: Carroll County, Indiana Occupation: Farmer Mustered out at Greensboro, North Caroline on June 2, 1865 Shortly after his return to Indiana in 1865, he married Jane Tribbitt in Carroll County, IND. My Great-Grandfather, Bert Monroe Bruce, was their third child. He married Lydia Ann Shuey Burleigh in 1903 in Peru, Miami, Indiana. Bert and Lydia stayed in Carroll County, Ind. until after the birth of their 3rd child, my Grandmother, Mabel Pauline Bruce. They then moved to Chehalis, Lewis, Washington where the next two children were born. Eventually they moved down the coast to Los Angeles, CA where Bert built homes. He must've gotten homesick though, for he traded in the property that he had in Los Angeles for some land, site unseen in March, Dallas, Missouri. It was there that he died, in 1937, from a massive heart attack and is buried in the Atteberry Shed Cemetery. Lydia lived until 1953 and died in San Antonio, Duval, TX. She was buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka, Seminole, OK My Grandmother, Mabel Pauline Bruce left Missouri in the late 1920's and joined her sister in Oklahoma. It was in Wewoka, OK that she met a young man who was working in the oil fields. His name was Raymond Earl RAMSEY and they were married in 1927. Ray and Mabel had six children, and their third child was my father, Donald Ray Ramsey. My Dad grew up in Wewoka, OK and attended college in Ada, OK. It was there that he met my mom, Virginia Lee Sparkman. After graduation they were married. I guess I broke the 3rd child tradition because I am their first child. My brother Stephen Ramsey is their oldest son and third child though. (I never saw the third child connection between the generations before this.) If any of you Bruce's out there have any knowledge of or connections to this Bruce Family, I'd love to hear from you. Maybe we can help fill in some of the gaps. Its been a while since I've posted my Pedigree chart so I figured I'd do it again in hopes that a new list member may know something. The big mystery at this time is still Samuel Bruce. Good morning list, I am signed up on the list, but have not posted yet. I am looking for information on my 3G grandmother, Nancy Bruce. I don't have dates for her, but my 3G grandfather, John Edgington was b. 1754 in Hampshire County, VA/WV, and died in Stark County, OH in 1813. He is buried one mile west of Canal Fulton in Stark County. He moved from Brooke County, VA/WV, to Stark County, OH in1811, therefore, I assume that he and Nancy were married in either Hampshire or Brooke Counties, VA/WV. Their children were: Aaron, John, Sarah, Mary, Rebecca, Noah, Nancy, Margaret, and Isaac. I would love to hear from descendents of Nancy Bruce and John Edgington, or anyone who may know of this branch of the family. Thank you and have a good day. Susan McAtee mcatee1@prodigy.net
Greetings All, Some of you might have recently experienced a problem with a subscriber by the name of Aaron Seaton at this address: arseaton@internetcds.com. Well he has been removed from the list and will not be allowed back on. I hope that will end his campaign of hate and profanity laden email. If any of you have any questions or need any help with the list just send me a note or go to this URL: http://www.mcn.net/~hmscook/roots/bruce.html I will be taking my wife back to graduate school and will be gone from Wednesday till Sunday so things will not get done during that time. Thanks for all your help and lets see some more messages on the list. ============================================================ Timothy hmscook@mcn.net http://www.mcn.net/~hmscook
Dear list members, Since I am new to this list, I would like to tell a little about the name/s I'm researching. Of course, BRUCE, and also my Mother's name RAGON. In December 1911, my Mother, Laura Etta (aka Kernie) RAGON, b. 1889, married Harry BRICE (b. 1889), in Sapulpa, OK. I am not sure of the year, but it must have been in 1912, no later than 1913, a little son was born, and named Malcolm Henry BRUCE. Harry BRUCE was not interested in staying married for long or for the little son, so left after the child was about 6 months old. When little Malcolm was 18 months old, he got Pneumonia and died. I have sent for both the birth and death certificates to Oklahoma City, and they could find neither. The place of residence at that time was in Micawber, OK. a very small place, but even yet can be found on some maps. My Mother died in 1968, and at that time, I wasn't interested in my family tree, but since early '90's I've been trying to find out all I could. If I could find some BRUCE relative or folks who knew of my Mother and her little child, or Harry BRUCE, I would appreciate writing to you and finding out anything I could. My Mother's maiden name was RAGON. Thanks in advance for any help. Allene Petree Kernier@aol.com
