I have the family Bible of William Pickett BRUCE and his wife Orra B. NORVELL. William Pickett BRUCE was born 7 Dec 1832 in Fleming Co KY. and was the son of George Stubblefield BRUCE and Sabina METCALF. Orra B. Norvell was born 7 July 1840 in Carlisle, KY an was the daughter of William and Emily G. NORVELL. There is a newspaper article with the Bible about a Miss Mamie GORDON, daughter of Thomas GORDON. There is no relationship established in the Bible so perhaps the "G" is for GORDON??? This family, along with other family members went to Cincinnati, and Minneapolis. If anyone is interested, I shall be happy to post to the Bible to the list or provide a copy to anyone interested if they will email me at Slowm@aol.com. Bea Hudson Hampton, VA Slowm@aol.com
I am writing a book and one Chapter will be on BRUCE. I copy below the sources I think are best. The biggest differences in these sources has to do with William Bruce who m. Christina. 3 sources have him the "brother" of Robert who m. Isobel (daug. of Wm. The Lion) and the Magna Carta Book has him the "son" of that Robert. Please reply with your judgement on this complete chart. Robert Bruce (magna Carta Book) and Robert Bruce by Scott, and Funk & Wagnall Encyclopedia (1996) were the combination of sources used for comparison of early generations in my book. A number below denotes descending generations. Ten generations are noted under the title THIS BOOK (by Jean Smallwood). Read columns downward. Emma de Bretagne not St.Clair (2nd.gen.above)and had son Robert, d. 1141 (4th gen. above). Many of these list Lady Bruce. Some sources skip Adam Bruce (3rd. gen.)who m. Emma Ramsay,as does the Encyclopedia above. Latter Day Saints files list Robert m. Brittnay (1st gen) and record that he had son Adam. who m. Ramsay. For Robert Bruce(Signers of Magna Carta,1215)-see internet Clan Bruce www.tartans.com/clans/bruce.html See Source Chart for Lady Dame Beckwith Bruce. In the 3 sources above, only selected children are listed. Some early genealogies list only sons. Daughters were not always listed. Many later genealogies show Lady Dame Beckwith Bruce, the connection for this book. Thank you, Jean Smallwood (jeansm@aol.com)

Are there any researchers out there who have traced their BRUCE family anywhere in or near the Gainesville, Cooke County, TX area? Would love to hear from you. Teresa
Sending this message again for those who may want to read the research material concerning another possible (more likely than the Viking/Norman origin) origin of the Royal Bruce line and other great family names of Scotland. The below books may be out of print, so try an inter-library loan as I did and copy them. Good luck. - "Origins of Heraldry" (Beryl Platts; Procter Press, London; 1980) - "Scottish Hazard", vol.1 (Beryl Platts; Procter Press, London; 1985) - "Scottish Hazard", vol.2 (Beryl Platts; Procter Press, London; 1990) Read with an open mind to the fact that the Viking/Norman origins is bogus history and that the Flemish origin is more likely. Do not write me to flame or ask questions. Get the books and form your own opinion. Larry L.S. Bruce

Joyce, Is your William BRUCE any relation to the James BRUCE who m.1786 Lucretia "Lucy" GAINES in Culpeper County, VA? W/r, Bruce Gustin
Can anyone identify Dollie Bruce? One photo has the name "Dollie Bruce" written in pencil on the back and the other has "Sister Dollie Bruce" written on the back. I think two different people are depicted so perhaps one was named Dollie Bruce and the other was her sister. I could find no additional information, no location or dates.
Hello Scotlass We seem to have perfect agreement back to the Robert who married William the Lions daughter. Before that we diverge. Will you give me a source I can read for the early information? I have repeated the genealogy I found in case you missed it the first time round. My interest is in my grandson's line. He can go back to this point with an unbroken line via his father according to several sources. Other sources show a break around 1700. Hence my interest.
