Rockefeller, Jr. Library has unveiled a greatly expanded section on the Colonial Williamsburg website (http://www.history.org), offering individuals interested in the Colonial Chesapeake the opportunity to search the library's vast collections. New features include PATRIOT, the Rockefeller Library's online catalog listing the 68,000 titles in the Library, and guides to manuscript, microfilm, selected photograph and other research collections, such as the Shirley Plantation Collection of over 18,000 manuscript items. Previously, individuals had to physically visit the library or be connected to an internal network to access these resources. "We have electronically opened the doors to our major collections by adding finding aids and the Library catalog to the World Wide Web," says Public Services Librarian Juleigh Clark. "Now, when researchers come to the Library, they will have a better idea of what we own, and we can serve them more efficiently." Other features on the website include a virtual exhibit of some of the treasures from the Rockefeller Library's rare book and manuscript collections and special indexes to articles in The Colonial Williamsburg Journal and The Colonial Williamsburg Interpreter. Of special interest is an index to the several hundred research reports written at Colonial Williamsburg over the last sixty years. Early American History Research Reports are distinguished for the significant amount of primary source material in them and for their time and place specificity: eighteenth-century Virginia. The John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Library is a research library specializing in the history and culture of the colonial Chesapeake. It is located near the Historic Area at 313 First Street and is open to the public. Library hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Contact: Juleigh Muirhead Clark Public Services Librarian John D. SEBURN (SEABORN) FRANKLIN2 BRUCE (THOMAS SEBURN1) was born November 28, 1855 in Tenn., and died March 2, 1923 in Gainesville, TX. (Nelson Grove cem.). He married VIOLET ELIZABETH THOMAS in TX. Notes for SEBURN (SEABORN) FRANKLIN BRUCE: With a death certificate that states his name as S.C. Bruce, and now his obituary, I am presuming that Seburn Franklin Bruce should be also known as S.C. Bruce. Info passed down thru the family states his name to be Seburn Franklin, but there is evidently erroneous info here. Obituary of S.C. Bruce: S.C. Bruce, 69, died at 11 o'clock this morning at his home two miles east of Gainesville after a lingering illness. He is survived by three grown sons, T.B. and G.H. of Cooke county and John M. of Childress. Also three brothers, J.M. and D.W. who reside near Gainesville and T.W. of Bomar, Okla. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock with Rev. J.H. Chism officiating. Burial will be made in the Nelson Grove cemetery with Undertaker S.W. Gibson in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Bruce was a well known truck and fruit grower, having resided in this county for some time and marketing his products here. A strange coincident is connected with his death. Exactly 21 years ago today at practically the same hour, Mr. Bruce's wife died, leaving several small children. He has been a widower since. Children of SEBURN BRUCE and VIOLET THOMAS are: 10. i. THOMAS BENTON3 BRUCE, b. August 4, 1880, Azle, TX.; d. September 19, 1939, Ft. Worth, TX.. 11. ii. SAMUEL HARRISON BRUCE, b. January 23, 1886, Montague, Tx. or Kentucky?; d. April 1945, Ft. Worth, TX. (Mt. Olivet cem.). 12. iii. JOHN MILLER BRUCE, b. March 8, 1887; d. February 18, 1928. iv. BERTIE MAY BRUCE, b. May 2, 1894.

Hi, Bea, and happy holidays. I hadn't even thought to look to KY for my other Bruce family. I've just believed that it was a part of the Bruce family that included William, James and Robert and came through NC. But my Gordon, Montgomery, and Watkins families all came from VA through KY, so why couldn't the Bruces have done so? Would you mind sharing any responses you get to this query? Joyce

    3. Ah, but you see, we who have to read hundreds of the damn things haven't time to read all the way through the messages. If they don't make their point clear at the beginning, then most of us busy bods put the message straight into the trash. I'm not trying to be smart, nor to create angst, but the old journo trick was to put the meat of the message at the _top_ so when the sub-editor came along with his scissors and sliced of the bottom paragraphs, the important stuff would still be there.
