    2. Oswald, Virginia (Ginny)
    3. I have no idea what this means, but both Selkirk and Bruce of intense interest to me. Selkirk Bruce (married a Dodd) came to MD from Scotland (Edinburgh) in the 1790s. She had two brothers, Andrew and Normand Bruce already living here. Andrew married Barbara Murdock, and Normand married Susannah Gardiner Key. The name John Bruce comes up again and again. Where in MD is this entry? By the way, feu is a Scottish term for land grant (by fee, in medieval history, to the use of heritable houses, lands, etc. for some return - rents, military service, etc.). If these names are in your line, please e-mail me specifically - sometimes I don't get back to the board the way I should. Ginny goswald1@netscape.net If it looks like I can fill in gaps for you, I'll be happy to. > ---------- > From: > BRUCE-D-request@rootsweb.com[SMTP:BRUCE-D-request@rootsweb.com] > Reply To: BRUCE-L@rootsweb.com > Sent: Monday, March 13, 2000 3:20 AM > To: BRUCE-D@rootsweb.com > Subject: BRUCE-D Digest V00 #17 > > <<Message: Microsoft Exchange Message>><<Message: 1817 Census>> > >

    1. Hopkins County, Ky Bruces
    2. Has anyone connected the John Allen Bruce from Lincoln County, N.C. who moved to Hopkins County, Ky with other Bruces who were in Hopkins County at that time? There were several children of an Abner Bruce - b. 1784 in N.C. who married a Martha (Patsey) Parrish. I believe his father was a Jeremiah Bruce and Milley Dunning. Places of residence, according to information I have been given, were Hartford and Bertie Co., N.C. Children's names were Jeremiah, Mary B., Abner, Jr., Martha, Mildred and Cader. Land grants were issued to Bruces by the name of Jeremiah, Sarah, Abner, and Cader -- presumably this same bunch of Bruces. Also to an Allen Bruce. As I have mentioned before, my gr-grandmother was Mahuldia Bruce and she married John Furgerson. They moved from Tennessee to Hopkins County in the early 1840's and I have been trying to identify her with other Bruces who were in the area. Someone told me that all of the Bruces who lived in Hopkins County were related. I also have information on an Allen Bruce who married a Pernecia Price who I have not been able to connect with anybody. I have more information about this Allen Bruce (died 1859, married Pernecia Price December 30, 1841 in Hopkins County, Ky) if anyone is interested. Joyce

    1. Seabourn, Arnold, Joel, Wilson, etc.
    2. P. A. Miller
    3. Hi all, In Will Bk 1, p. 78 of NC Iredell, is Peter Bruce's will, written 15 Feb 1802, probated 1803. He names wife Rachel, and children Arnold, Gelby, Joel, Wilson, Seaborn, Philip, Peter E., Lucretia Mosely, Sarah Gill. The family came from Wake to Iredell in mid 1790s and they're all together in the census 1790-1810 and some beyond. Seabourn and Wilson are in AL Limestone in the 1820 census. Seabourn has only one son at that time who is definitely Peter M. Bruce, age 3. Wilson has 4 sons under 21, I only know names of two, Wilson L. age 4 and Joel age 13, so one of the other two could easily be Thomas Seburn Bruce. A researcher has said Peter is son of Peter Sr. of NC Halifax, I think so too, but I haven't found/seen published _proof_. I had found the same evidence, but still not positive proof. Peter Bruce Sr. left a will in Halifax written 4 Jan 1760, probated at Mar Court 1762, naming wife Mary and children Peter Bruce, Ann Fountain, Elizabeth Crats [Coats], Jean Bruce, Sarah Brasswell and Alice Huett. There aren't a lot of other Peter Bruces floating around that I've found. Unfortunately the land records between Halifax and Wake/Iredell don't share a lot of names like you would hope to lend evidence to a common trail. The best link I found is in Wake county deed bk F p. 165, 11 Mar 1783, William Bruce of Halifax co, N.C. to John Martin Streator (Stretor) of same, £100, 150A in Wake co. lying on both sides of Island Cr adj. John Marr, William Turner, and Thomason. Wit: William Wright, Joseph Wheless, Israel Judge. Seabourn went to Illinois and his son Peter M. went from there to Grayson co TX. This is based on work I did for a friend many years ago, so I'm not a pro on the lateral lines. Good luck, Pam in CA

    1. Will or Probate of James BRUCE
    2. Hello, I need help in finding the Will or Probate records of James BRUCE of Greene Co. GA and Attala Co. MS. He was the son of Aziel BRUCE, and husband of Della RICHARDS first then Sarah RANSOM. He is found in Attala Co. MS in the census of 1860, but other researchers have given me into that he went back to Greene Co. GA where he died on 23 April 1870. I haven't been able to find a record of that death, and need it. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks for any help. Julia French Wood JuliaFWood@aol.com

    1. ALLEN BRUCE, WEBSTER/HOPKINS CO., KY
    2. J. E. Leonard
    3. Reverie Rowlett, Yes, I have checked USGenweb search. The only mention I can find on Allen Bruce is from the 1860 Webster Co. Census and possibly in some land records. There is nothing that gives me anything regarding his parents, siblings, or place of birth for him. I'm not even real sure he was born in Kentucky. I've tried looking around in bordering states and counties and still haven't been able to find him. Guess I'll find him some day. Thanks for your response. Jackie

    1. ALLEN BRUCE B. ABT. 1820 KY????
    2. J. E. Leonard
    3. I going to post my Bruce again, maybe someone new to the list might connect. I am looking for Allen Bruce, b. abt. 1820, married December 30, 1841 in Hopkins County, Kentucky, to Pernecia Price. Allen died ca. 1858-1859. After his death, his wife Pernecia, married 1860 to William Williams in Hopkins/Webster County, Kentucky. Pernecia and William Williams are listed in the 1860 Webster County Census, annotated by Carole Palmer. Carole's annotation is where I got the information regarding Allen Bruce. Does anyone out there know of this Allen Bruce? I have received some information from some kind people that he did receive land in or around the Hopkins/Webster Co., KY area, but outside of that, I cannot find any other information regarding him, parents, siblings, etc. Would greatly appreciate any help and will be very willing to share what information I have regarding Allen and Pernecia Bruce's children. One of their children, Amanda Melvina Bruce, is my great-grandmother. Thank you in advance. Jackie

    1. Re: Genealogy Library
    2. Frances, I do have subscriptions to both GenealogyLibray.com and Ancestry.com. Both of them are VERY good. Well worth the money for someone who does not have access to nearby repositories of records. I use them both on a daily basis and think they are both equal in value and although there is some duplication of material, each has a different set of record types that are accessed via their individual libraries and databases. You can always choose to subscribe for the 1 month plan and after trying them out decide which you like better and call them back and change subscription to a yearly one. Hope this helps. 1. Bruce family of Gartlet, Clackmannanshire, Scotland
    2. Margaret Taylor
    3. The Bruce family I'm interested in came from Gartlet, Clackmannanshire, Scotland. At some time in the 1700s, a female BRUCE from that area married a BARNETT from Belfast, Ireland. Sorry I'm so vague, but that is all the information I have. The BARNETT MAY have been Alexander or Andrew (or even another Christian name). The BRUCE MAY have been Isabella or Margaret (or another Christian name). The BARNETT was a descendent of Andrew BARNETT who went from Warwickshire to Ballyagherty, near Saintfield, and bought property there in 1693. The names Isabella and Margaret have persisted in the Barnett family (including their descendents of other surnames) ever since, and are reputed to come from the BRUCE family. My full Christian names are Isabella Margaret Mary. My grandmother was Isabella Margaret Olive. She had Aunts named Isabella and Margaret etc. In the remote hope that someone can help in this search.... Regards Margaret Taylor Brisbane, Australia margtayl@bigpond.com

I can't help you on this Jackson Co., TN family except to caution you that William Bruce in Sumner Co had a son named Jefferson. This Jefferson Bruce was born about 1805, married Mary Wallace on 19 Sep 1832, and migrated to Mississippi in 1839. I have never found any evidence that the Jackson Co. Bruce family and this particular Sumner Co. Bruce family are related. It is believed that William Bruce's brothers James, Sr., and Robert were also in Sumner Co. for a few years in the 1790-1800-1810 period, and there were other Bruce families there as well who may or may not have been related.
