Hi there! I'm on the 'Bruce list'....don't know if I should be or not.. My married name is "Bruce" but it's original spelling up to the time of my husband's grandfather, Frode Brus/Bruce....the spelling was Brus. So, you see- I fall into that catagory. There are many descendants of this particular Bruce (Brus) that have now been spelling the last name as "Bruce". So, don't know if I should be on a different list or not. My son once had a teacher in Renton, and her last name was "Bruse". If our relatives (they are Danish) were going to change, I kind of wish, they'd changed it to Bruse. Here are my 'Brus/Bruce' Descendants: ***Apologies in advance, for the other names, however I've seen old postings of people looking for some of these descendants on other sites, so you never know when someone will be on the 'Bruce' list, knowing their mother was a "Brus/Bruce"......so, please excuse the other names!!! Enlisted at Alton, Illinois on 01 Mar 1865. His residence was Nettle Creek, Grundy Co, ILL. He was discharged at Selma, Ala by Lt. Hosner. Daniel was born in Tennessee. He was 28 yrs old at time of enlistment. Stood 6'0", had red hair, grey eyes & was fair complected. His trade was that of "Painter". Daniel's brother was Thomas BRUCE married Mary Wheelbarger. They & their family lived a short distance from Daniel & Angeline at the time of the 1870 census. The census reads that Daniel & Thomas' parents were from VA...Some of the family lore says KY. As I understand it, the parents lived close to these 2 state borders. We have no proof, but we think that William Bruce of Chariton Co, MO is another brother. We would love to get some feedback on this family pertaining to Daniel & Thomas' parents. Diana

WOW contact #2.... Hi Judy, Thanks for the response. Yes, I have quite a bit of information on that line of Bruce's, Amaziah and Julia Ann Paul Bruce had 8 children. Wellington Bruce also had 8 children. The only information I have on his children is birth, death and spouse's. Wellington moved to MO. somewhere between 1892 and 1902. Would gladly exchange information I have for the desendents of Wellington. Roxie Lulu Bruce (sister to Myrtel Bernice) was my father's first wife. I think it would be best to send it postal service as I wouldn't have to re-type everything. If you will send your address to my home e-mail address I will get a packet off to you in the next few days. My address is below. Thanks again Donna -- Donna R. Mouton 525 Co. I am a descendant of James Bruce, who married Helen White in Largo, Fife, Scotland in November 1833. They had the following children: John, b. 1834 Ann, b. 1836 Mary, b. 1838 James, b. 1840 William, b. 1842 Robert, b. 1844 Helen, b. 1847 My line is through daughter Ann, b. 1836, who married John Colcleugh (later changed to Calcluth) and moved to Greenock, Renfrew Co., Scotland. A few months ago I found another researcher named Sara Johnston Allen on the GenForum Message Board, who is also working on this line, but I haven't been able to make contact with her. Does anyone have any information on the Bruces of Fife, or know how to reach Sara Johnston Allen? Thanks, Nancy Canada I

The George Bruce who married Rachel Littler was born before 27 April 1722 in Scotland. He and Rachel had 8 children: John, Mary, Sarah, Ann, George, Leah, James. amd Rebecca. I believe the George Bruce you were looking for was another George.
Hi Roberta, I wish I could tell you more, but I have no information to offer up on the George Bruce you ask about. I cannot remember who exactly who I recieved the information from but I know it is not verfied with any sources( well, at least none were listed in the info sent to me). I have the George Bruce you speak of being born about 1722 in Scotland, which fits into your time line. I have this George Bruce as being married to one Rachel Littler in the year 1750 which also clicks. It would be interesting to know if this information we are looking at is actually what we think it might be. There is a gentlemen by the name of Bob Moore searching for information on a Benjamin B. Bruce b abt 1768/1770.d in 1822 in Catahoula Parish, LA. I just recently sent him an e-mail stating that it might be possible for the Benjamin he is seeking to be the son of George but had no way to back it up. I live in West Virginia, about a half hour from VA and MD and have found several references to the Bruce's in this area. I.E. Brucetown, VA. only 20 minutes from me. Along with marriages that took place in Spotsylvania, PA., Fredricksburg, VA. Fredrick MD, and Berkley Co., West Virginia (Which is the county I live in ) which of course was VA at the time. I look forward to your correspondence in the future and hope that mabey we can make a connection Best Regards and Happy Ancestor Hunting!
