This wife, name unknown, was born in TN and their son Frank jr. was born in Louisiana in 1864. Remember: During the Civil War Frank Sr. could have met and married someone in Louisiana; Frank fought in Civil War : 05 August 1862 at Baton Rouge, LA.; 13 April 1863 at Bisland, LA. and 18 June 1863 at Port Hudson, LA. Son, Frank Bruce b. 1864, was born in Louisiana and his mother was born in TN.. So it is possible that Frank SR, met and married this wife while serving in Civil War. After the war they all returned to his home in Mass. where a second son , Robert, was born in 1869. Then, sometime after the birth of their second son, 1869, this wife died. By the year 1879, Frank had moved from Mass to Vermont and had married Estelle Cooper. Their daughter Estella was born in Vermont in 1879. Between the birth of Estelle and Ralph Bruce in 1880.. the couple moved to MN. where Ralph was born in 1880 They migrated from Vermont to MN. after the census was taken in Vermont...and before the birth of their son Ralph....

I have a bruce family tree in my possesion that shows benjamin and mathilda to be my great great (Tooo Many greats) grandparents. I am new to this and am looking for details. If you want to exchange info drop me aline.
My interest is in George Bruce who died 1741/42 in Westmoreland Co., VA. There is listed in the Lunenburg Co (VA) Court Order Book dated July 1762 and Lunenburg Co DB 7, p 129 that Hannah, the daughter of George Bruce gives her brother Charles power of attorney to collect her portion of their father's estate in the possession of Matthew Partridge of Westmoreland Co. I am trying to get more details on the Bruce estate that Matthew had. I am interested in knowing if there are any deeds or court cases etc that deal with this situation. Also, what was the relationship between George Bruce and Matthew Partridge that he would hold the estate for 20 years. Was George Bruce's wife a Partridge? Her name was Margary Unknown. Some say Wroe. Does anyone have any knowledge of this? Thanks Bea

Well, in Colonial Dorchester County, Maryland, Rent Rolls were those books kept by the Rent-Roll Keepers (seriously) in order to assess and collect the "quit-rents" due from the colony's "freemen" to the Lord Baltimore who was the Proprietor of Maryland (in other words, he owned the land). The "quit-rents were essentially a property tax; however, unlike the property taxes of today, there was no pretense to these--they went directly into the personal coffers of the Calvert family. Quit-rents had their origin in feudal times. -= Bruce Gustin =- -----Original Message----- From: Slowm@aol.com [mailto:Slowm@aol.com] Sent: Tuesday, November 26, 2002 20:16 To: BRUCE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Rent Rolls To the list: Could someone explain what "Rent Rolls" are? His father is listed as William Meline.I found a William Meline who married Lydia Bruce February 7, 1633. They lived in Edinburgh and he was a weaver. George Bruce married Elizabeth Clark whose father was a weaver.Maybe George Meline changed is name to his mothers maiden name when he came to America. I don't know how to prove this and if anybody has some suggestion or would like to look into this further please email me.
