The Pendleton District, SC was split in 1826 into mostly Anderson Co, SC and Franklin Co, GA. Major Aaron Broyles seemed to have settled in the part which later became Anderson Co, SC. I was recently at the Indiana State Library and they had several books that included the Broyles family. I have quoted one of them here. "History Of Old Pendleton District and Genealogy of Leading Families", 1978 by The Rev. Silas Emmett Lucas, Jr.; published by Southern Historical Press, pg. 133: BROYLES FAMILY " I. Sarah A. Taliaferro married Dr. O. R. Broyles. They resided for a time on Beaver Dam, Anderson County, then removed to Pendleton and purchased and resided for years at the home now owned by F. J. Pelzer. This place they sold to James T. Latta and then moved to the Town of Anderson, and died there and they are both buried in Silver Brook Cemetery. They had the following children: 1. Augusta Taliaferro Broyles, never married, was a distinguished lawyer and is buried in Silver Brook Cemetery. 2. Charles Edward Broyles married Lucy Johnson, second. He too was a lawyer of distinction. Was colonel in Confederate War, and now resides in Colorado with his second wife. 3. Zachariah Broyles---died unmarried. 4. Wm. Henry Broyles married Rebecca Taliaferro. 5. Magaret Caroline Broyles married Dr. Sam M. VanWyck. 6. Dr. Robt. Broyles married Ella Keith of Charleston. 7. Sarah Ann Broyles married Wm. D. Williams of Greenville, Tenn. 8. Dr. Thomas T. Broyles married first Mary Rainey; second, Bettie Harrison. 9. John P. Broyles married Bettie Hubbard. 2. Gussie Broyles married Tom Middlebrook. D. Rebecca Broyles married John Clark. E. Charles Broyles married Hallie Schille. F. Bruer Broyles married Annie Walker. G. Oze Broyles married Mamie Little. H. John Broyles--unmarried. 5. (above) Margaret Caroline Broyles married Dr. Sam VanWyck, son of Wm. and Lydia Ann Maverick VanWyck. Dr. VanWyck was surgeon to Forrest's regiment and was killed in Confederate War. They had the following children: A. Sam Maverick VanWyck. B. Oze B. VanWyck. (See VanWyck Family). 6. (above) Dr. Robt. Broyles married Ella Keith and they had the following children: A. Mattie Broyles. B. Taliaferro Broyles--died. C. Robt. Broyles--killed on railroad. D. Keith Broyles. E. Mary Broyles. 7. (above) Sarah Broyles married Wm. D. Williams of Tennessee and had the following children: A. Wm. D. WIlliams, Jr.---unmarried. B. Lucian Williams---died unmarried. C. Margaret Williams---died unmarried. D. John Q. Williams---unmarried. E. Minnie Williams---unmarried. F. Zae Williams---unmarried. 8. (above) Dr. Thos T. Broyles married first, Mary Rainy; second, Bettie Harrison and had the following children: (no data) 9. (above) John P. and wife, Bettie (Hubbard) Broyles have the following children: A. Augustus T. Broyles, Jr.----unmarried. B. John P. Broyles, Jr.---unmarried. C. Douglass Broyles---unmarried. D. Zae Broyles---unmarried." Note: Sarah Ann Taliaferro's parents were Zachariah Taliaferro b. 1759 Amherst Co, VA, and Margaret Chew Carter b. Caroline Co, VA. Zachariah was a private in the War of Revolution at age 18, and afterward he became a lawyer in Virginia and later practiced in the District of Pendleton until 1826 when the Pendleton District was divided. He died in 1831. Zachariah and Margaret left surviving them four daughters: Sarah A. (said to be Elizabeth in one document), Lucy Hannah, Mary Margaret, and Caroline Virginia. Dr. O. R.
