Lisa I agree with you. My maiden name is BAIRD, and it is spelled BAIRD,BEARD,BIRD,BAYRD,Bard,and a few others. All could be correct, but we have always spelled our name in my family BAIRD. My great great grandfather signed his name BEARD. Also, another of my ancesters is CROWLEY or CROLEY, whichever you prefer. And just look at BROYLES. There is BREUEL, BREILS, BRYLES, BRILES, BROYLES, and even BLANKENBEULER, perhaps others. I think this is a very important aspect of genealogy research of which we should all take note.
