The name Tipton is used a lot in my line of the Broyles family. It is hard to know whether they named people after former family members or people they admired. Darius Broyles my gg grandfather was said to have told a rhyme to his grandson Harry Thomas Broyles. Harry Thomas Tipton Darius Erasmus Waterhouse Broyles. When I went in to search there really was a Darius Waterhouse in Rhea County. I think this means that Harry was named after Thomas or Harry Thomas Tipton and Darius after Darius Waterhouse. The Broyles also named children after James Madison, Thomas Jefferson, Joseph Addison and other prominent figures. Daniel who named his son after James Madison did so nearly twenty years before James Madison was president . Madison lived in the same region in Madison/Culpepper Co Virginia and may have been in the same militia as Daniel. Jefferson also wasn't far away. Naming patters are often consistent in families but they can pose a mystery. Susan

I have a Joseph Adison Broyles md. Barbara Ann Thompson that moved to Texas about 1900 from Rhea Co. TN. They had 12 children. The 5th child was Darius Broyles, b. 1856 md. Mahala Compton, moved to Calif. Would this be the one your looking for.
