    1. [BROYLES] Map of Present-Day Germany, Showing Stadts (States)

    3. I recently came across a map of present-day Germany which shows its present Stadts (States). I thought it might aid some of you in placing in perspective the areas of "Germany" from which our ancestors immigrated. Keep in mind that "Germany", as we know it, did not exist when our ancestors left there. Present-day Germany was, at that time, made up of a hodge-podge of principalities, duchys, etc. I have placed the map on the page containing other historical maps of "Germany". You can see it here: (go to the bottom of the page) <http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~george/historicalgermanmaps.html> Starting at the top of this page, you can see the political entities of present-day Germany through time, ending up with today's Germany. I tweaked the map some before uploading. Stadts are outlined in neon-green, and the Stadts are in red. For reference to anyone who wonders about "The Palatinate", generally speaking, it was the area now containing the Stadts of Rheinland-Pfalz, Saarland, Baden- Württemberg, the southern part of Hessen, and the southern part of Bayern. The map prints out very nicely on 8½ x 11 paper. Hope this is of use to some of you, SgtGeorge George W. Durman (P.S. You can download the referenced map by viewing the full- sized map [not the thumbnail] and right-clicking to save it.)
