Just didn't have much. I have asked in the past for additions but it took this last reminder to really get things going. I have enough new entries to keep me busy for several days now. To add your information, just send me an email to one of the following email addresses: germannaresearch@comcast.net georgewdurman@comcast.net GERMANNA_COLONIES-admin@rootsweb.com I don't have a GAAR/GARR page yet, but as soon as you send your information I will make one. It's no problem since I have a blank template page made and all I have to do is insert the names for the new page. I would like to keep the format consistent throughout the various pages, so here's what I suggest. Give the name of the Germanna emigrant from whom you descend. It's probably a good idea to give the original German name and the name by which he/she became known in the Colonies. Then start listing the line of descent that comes down to you. In the past I asked only for the "direct" line, that is just the names of the descendants, without spouses; however, thanks to you (in your previous emails today), I now see the importance of adding the spouses. There are two places to add your information on each surname page: Websites & Email Addresses. If you don't have a website just send your email address. If you do have a website, be sure to send the URL for the website and it's name, and your email address. Here's the format I would like to use for all the entries: (My line of descent.) ===================================== (Johannes BREYHEL [John BROYLES] m. Ursula RUOP; Hans Jacob BROYLES m. Maria Catharina FLEISCHMANN [FLESHMAN]; Jacob BROYLES m. Elizabetha YOWELL [UHL]; James BROYLES m. Eleanor BROYLES; Simeon BROYLES m. Mary LONGMIRE; William H. BROYLES m. Samantha Josephine LOVETTE; Herman Lovette BROYLES m. Lenora WILKINSON [McQUILKIN]; Mary Frances BROYLES m. Norman R. DURMAN; George W. DURMAN [Me].) (In the above list, the Eleanor BROYLES married to James BROYLES is the daughter of Matthias BROYLES, son of Hans Jacob BROYLES.) ===================================== Now, I'm not going to be a stickler for adhering to any particular format, but would like to be able to include a complete line of descent. In the past so many people just sent their email address and said something like "Descendant of John BROYLES". That is really not enough because when others access those pages they should be able to see immediately if anyone else is researching the same family lines/branches. As an illustration, if someone is looking for information on Simeon BROYLES, son of James, son of Jacob, seeing only "Descendant of John BROYLES" doesn't really help them that much. On the other hand, if someone looking for Simeon BROYLES, son of Matthias, son of Hans Jacob, he/she would know that wasn't my line/branch. I would like to list those names in the line of descent in a linear format, one generation under the other, but that makes a lot of scrolling necessary on the pages. What do you all think? Would it make it easier to find fellow researchers if the names were not all together, but one under the other? Let me know. If, for some reason, you don't want your full name included in the entry, be sure to tell me so. I do think that it's no security problem and would let other researchers know exactly who you are. (If any potential trouble-maker really wants to find out someone's full name, it takes about 15 seconds to use one of dozens of utilities and type in the email address and come up with the user's name.) If anyone has suggestions of any kind, don't hesitate to email me and let me know. I want the pages to be formatted so that they appeal to the readers and are easy to look at.
