    1. [BROYLES] Everett Kelsey Broyles
    2. This is the obituary of the greatest Broyles I had the opportunity to know, my Dad, Everett Kelsey. We lost him this past Tuesday, October 28th. Bob Broyles Everett Kelsey Broyles, born on January 17, 1922 in Hutchinson, Kansas was an identical twin to Kenneth Broyles. In addition to his twin brother Kenneth, Kelsey also had two sisters, Alice and Esther, and two other brothers, Clarence and Darrel. While at a young age, the family moved and settled in Wheatland, Wyoming. During their years in Wheatland, the family attended the Methodist Church and Kelsey regularly attended Sunday School and vacation bible school. He was also involved in school sports, such as his favorite, boxing. Kelsey graduated from Wheatland High School in 1939. Upon graduating, Kelsey began work as an apprentice typesetter for the local paper. When the duty of W.W.II called, he and his twin Kenneth enlisted and served together in the Navy. Kelsey’s duties were to provide services as a pharmacist mate and as a surgery technician. Upon termination of W.W.II, the brothers returned to Wheatland, and then relocated the family to Portland, Oregon. It was soon after this point that he met a wonderful little Irish girl, whom he would happily marry and spend the next fifty-six blessed years with. Kelsey and his wife, Imelda Heade, were married on June 14, 1947. Soon after that the family began to grow. Starting with a son, Paul Kelsey, followed by Kathy, Susan, David, Kristi, and Bob, which rounded out the family. During the early years of family life, Kelsey and Imelda raised their kids in the heart of Portland, Oregon, before heading out to the country. It was at this time that Kelsey and Imelda bought some acreage and built a wonderful family farm. The farm included raising nursery stock and blackcap berries and tending to cattle, horses, sheep, pigs, all sorts of fowl, rabbits, etc. They also grew their own hay, Christmas trees, and a vegetable garden that anyone would be proud to call at their own. It was during these years that the family learned much of the farm life, teaching a way of life that would be everlasting in the lives of the children. Whether it was repairing a corral or selecting sires for breeding his stock, Kelsey took matters to heart and always found a way to involve his children in the decision/learning process. In 1988, they sold the farm and moved to Gresham, where Kelsey lived out the rest of his life Soon after Kelsey arrived in Portland in 1940, he worked in the lab of the Portland Gas and Coke Company and Hercules Inc., from which he retired in 1984. Before and especially after retirement, Kelsey truly enjoyed traveling. He was fortunate enough to travel to nearly every corner of the planet, as well as countless regional trips. Kelsey was a member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Gresham. He was also a member of the VFW, the American Legion, active as a volunteer with AARP, Loaves and Fishes, St. Vincent de Paul soup kitchen, various programs within his church, as well as many other activities throughout his lifetime. Kelsey is survived by: his wife Imelda, sons Paul Kelsey and David of Portland, Bob of Tucson AZ., and daughters Kathy Schweitzer of Portland, Susan Clark of Oregon City, and Kristi Noga of Port Orchard, WA. He is also survived by a sister, Alice Newgard-White of Portland, and nine wonderful grandchildren Amber, April, Angie, Melissa, Jason, Mark, Kevin, Carley, and Eric. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him. Rosary will be Friday October 31, at 10:30 am, followed by a memorial Mass at 11:00, at St. Henry’s Catholic Church, 346 NW First St., Gresham, Oregon. Donations may be made to Maryknoll Missions PO Box 302, Maryknoll, NY. 10545.
