I just put up a database at rootsweb for the family of James Graham, Sr & Sarah Broyles?. I am of course not finished (if I ever will be), but have a real good start documenting this family. James lived in the Broylesville community of Washington county in the early years and then got a land grant in Greene county and lived very close to the Washington Co line in the later years at the mouth of Horse Creek on the Nolichucky River. His land was adjacent to the land of Martin Click, Sr in Greene Co. Martin is the son of Lewis Click. He wrote his will in 1813 naming all of his children. I made this discovery while I was researching to find our old Click (Gluck) family in Washington County and was just totally amazed that my 4th great grandfather, Lewis Click was living here. I knew his land was adjacent to that of James Graham as it was mentioned in our deeds consistently, but had never really taken a look at it. No one in our family had ever plotted exactly where Lewis lived just that he lived in Washington Co on a branch of Little Limestone Creek. After tracking it through the deeds I did in fact find the farm located 1/2 mile from Broylesville community. James Graham's land I believe was located right behind the Mercantile store in Broylesville. There has been speculation that his wife Sarah was a Broyles. Here in the location of Broylesville, I find him a Scot & my 4th great grandfather Lewis Click, a German, living next door to each other among all of these families Broyles & related families from the Madison & Culpeper Co of Virginia etc that have married into the two families. They both are living right in the heart of all of these Broylesville families and seems very strange if we weren't related in some way. We all know that they traveled together, and most of the first families of Tennessee had had prior connections before arriving in Tenn. Another strange connection to the same families, is my 2nd great grandfather William Columbus Click married my 2nd great grandmother, Phoebe Gray. Her mother was Nancy Campbell, who's parents were Elias Campbell & Elizabeth Yowell, also Culpeper & Madison Co. Virginia families. Elizabeth Yowell's father Christopher Yowell, Jr had a sister also Elizabeth Yowell & she married Jacob Broyles, the son of Jacob Broyles & Mary Catherine Fleischmann. Most of the Broyles families that seem to be interacting with our family are the descendants from this line of the Broyles family. They usually always point back to this line. The Graham & Click families are always living in the same area's on a regular basis with members of this line of the Broyles family both in Washington & Greene county. I have 28 Broyles marriages in our Click family lines. A few years ago a gentlemen from the Graham descendants was contacted by a Broyles researcher who believed that Sarah was a Broyles, the wife of James Graham, Sr. What his theory was based on I'm not quite sure as I yet have not been able to make contact or obtain the name of that person who thought this was the case. It does seem rather strange that our two families were living among these other families if we were not connected in some way. There is just entirely too much interaction between them. If anyone should run across anything in their files pertaining to the families of the Graham's or Click's interaction with the Broyles family, please contact me. http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET& db=ruthgraham&id=I65364 Carolyn Whitaker

I have seen some emails lately that said that the GLUCK/CLICK family was not German, but Dutch. I think this is a mistake. Some southern Germany-Austrian families DID first move to the Netherlands, then to America. But, they were not Dutch - they were still German. As to the GRAHAM family, that you state is Scots, I would likewise wonder if they were, in fact, Scots. If you have documented proof that they were, then there is no argument. But, if going only on the name, and "guessing" its origin, I would be very careful. I would be very wary about the origin without proof.
