KY. SLAVE & OWNER INFO. Hello lists, I've recently checked out a library book relating to "slave genealogy" and steps on how to navigate your way through court/land documents, ect., and in reading it, I see much of the author's research was conducted in WAYNE CO. KY. The author has genealogical charts to a few slave/owner households dating between approx. 1800 to about 1910. Three separate case studies show the family trees of the slaveholders, names of slaveholders, and lists their property, including slaves.......by name, age & sometimes price selling them for. Slaveholder surnames are: COPENHAVER SIMPSON WOOSLEY MERCER WILLIAMS COWAN-GILLESPIE WILHITE GOVER RANKIN CARTER WALLACE EWING There are also several family trees of slaves, and even follows a few from the 1840 census as slaves all the way through freedom, and up to the 1880 census. There are Wayne Co. wills, bills of sales for slaves, and appraisements and inventories of slaveholders' estates. The family trees of slaves include the surnames: SIMON (commonly called "Si."), EWING (once freed, his children took his given names as their surname.) COPENHAVER, MILLY MILLSPRING COWAN, CESAR DAUGHERTY WEAVER The book, "Slave Genealogy: A Research Guide With Case Studies", by David H. Streets. Published in 1986 by Hertiage Books, Inc. (301)-464-1159. ISBN# 0-917890-63-9 . I have this book until April 28th, will be happy to do look-ups. April.
