(From George W. Durman [SgtGeorge], Rootsweb Listowner.) THIS IS NOT AN ADVERTISEMENT !!!!! (I have no financial interest whatsoever in any of these publications or genealogy related items.) The information I am providing here is merely to advise any new users, and remind old users, about some publications and genealogy-related items that may be purchased by those researching the following Germanna families, of whatever spelling variant: BROYLES/BRILES WILHITE/WILHOIT FLESHMAN/FLEISCHMANN BLANKENBAKER KINDLER MARTIN KRUM/CRUM COPP/CUPP WALTERS PAINTER and many more families associated with the BROYLES Family, such as FOX, BYRD/BIRD, etc. A Germanna "cousin" of ours, John "Ken" Broyles, Sr., has compiled genealogy data on BROYLES and the above related families. You can go to this URL to read about his publications, scope of coverage, price, etc.: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~george/kenbroy.html Ken has researched the BROYLES/BRILES genealogy lines for over 30 years. Just as John Blankenbaker is the recognized "guru" for all Germanna genealogy, Ken is our "guru" for BROYLES/BRILES and related families. He was one of the first to convert Dr. Arthur Leslie Keith's Manuscript to a more ordered and more easily-read document. Over the years Ken has published a 10-volume set of "The Broyles Family Ties", complete with indices for each volume. Each volume contains an assortment of records, plus several individual family lines, which were complete at the time they were published. As an example, you will find the family lineage for Frank BROYLES, the former University of Arkansas head football coach and Athletic Director, in one of the volumes. There are many lineages for the related families listed above. In addition to "The Broyles Family Ties", Ken published, for years, a bi-monthly "Broyles Family Newsletter", in which he provided information on births, marriages, deaths, etc., of BROYLES/BRILES and other Germanna family descendants. This was information provided by his subscribers, and information gathered from public sources. In the Newsletter, Ken provided Census Data, cemetery data, wills, court records, etc., with which he was constantly being provided by dedicated genealogists who subscribed to the Newsletter. (NOTE: The Broyles Family Newsletter ceased being published as of August 2000; however all back issues are still available.) Last year, Ken finished the first publication of Dr. Arthur Leslie Keith's typescript. (Dr. Keith has been discussed on the GERMANNA_COLONIES Mailing List, and it is because of his decades-long and painstaking research that we have most of the material we have today on the BROYLES/BRILES and WILHITE/WILHOIT families.) The "Keith Typescript" is in three spiral bound volumes (plus a fourth volume for the index), and, in addition to Dr. Keith's original material, contains wills and all the census records on the BROYLES Family that Ken had available at the time of publication. These volumes actually contain considerably more than the individuals and data from Dr. Keith's typescript. Ken has added to the family lines that Dr. Keith started in the early 1900's, in many cases, completing family lines down to the present generation, and adding lines that were not in Dr. Keith's original typescript. There are approximately 800 pages in the 4 volumes, and they are 8½" X 11" in size. Several years ago, Ken received The Brohl Coat of Arms from Heinrich Brohl of Germany. No one is sure if BROHL is related to our family line, although it is generally accepted that it is just another spelling variation of the original common name, of which BREUEL, BREHEL, BREYHEL, etc., were also other spellings. Regardless, The Brohl Coat of Arms has been reproduced in color on an offset press, and is 8" X 10" in size, and we thought some of you might be interested in it. (There is no Coat of Arms for the name BROYLES, even though some may try to sell you one. The name BROYLES was not used by this family until their arrival in America.) The BROHL Coat of Arms is dated 1332. Also available is a wooden notebook (3 ring binder) for your family history. Ken has put the BROHL Coat of Arms on the front. (If you request it, Ken will put BROYLES on the front instead of BROHL, as he had done for himself.) The wooden notebook has the Coat of Arms painted on the cover, in color, with a clear finish over it. (Ken has also indicated that he will make wooden notebook covers with Coats of Arms for other family surnames. All that is required is that the customer provide a good color photo of the Coat of Arms.) KEEP IN MIND that, although Dr. Keith's work was focused on the BROYLES family, in researching this family, many, many data on other Germanna families were uncovered and included in the work. To reiterate one of my favorite sayings, "You can't scratch one Germanna family without scratching most of the other Germanna families." And, this is especially true for the BROYLES family. The original immigrant, Johannes BREYHEL/BREHEL (John BROYLES), had only two sons and one daughter who lived to continue his line. But, these three children had many children, who had many children, etc. In my relatively small database (only 4900+ names), I find the following families who had at least one BROYLES ancestor. (This includes Germanna families, and other families of German descent who were in the Germanna area): FLEISCHMANN/FLESHMAN, BROWN/BRAUN, CRIGLER/KRIGLER, YEAGER/YAGER, WILHITE/WILHOIT, WEAVER/WEBER, WAYLAND/WEYLAND, YOWELL/ÜHL, STONECIPHER/STEINSEIFER, COPP/CUPP, CRUM/KRUM, COOK/KOCH, PAINTER, RUSH/RAUSCH, RECTOR, SNAPP, HAMMER, BLANKENBAKER, KLUG, HOFFMAN/HUFFMAN, CLORE, VOGT/VAUGHT, WALTERS, MARTIN, TANNER/GARVER, LEATHERS, BITNER, and BURGNER. Not ALL lines of these families have a BROYLES ancestor, but some do. What this means is that if you search through Dr. Keith's manuscript, you might find important data for your research on the above names. And, I have input only the first 1½ volumes of Ken Broyles' "The Broyles Family Ties" into the database. There is no telling how many other links I will find once I get ALL the data into the database! AGAIN, please don't consider this a commercial advertisement! If you're not interested, just ignore this post; however, countless researchers have been able to complete their ancestry and link back to the original Germanna immigrants by using Ken's publications.
