I received this from Nancy S. Hatcher, who forwarded it to me from SENIOR-NEWBIE-L, where it was posted by another user. I thought the rest of you might enjoy it. I thought it was very nice. I have finished the page for John's photos taken near Fellinghausen, Germany, and showing the "Hauberg" industry. The URL is: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~george/johnsgermnotes/fellinghausen.html John gives an excellent description of the Hauberg industry and there is a clickable link near the bottom of the page which will take you to a German web site giving some more information. In preparation for helping one of our BROYLES cousins in Australia, I was wondering if anyone on these Mailing Lists has ever run across any information about a BROYLES migration to Australia. This is a totally new area of research for me and it would be great to have some kind of starting place when we start trying to tie him in to the BROYLES family tree. All replies are welcome, even if all you have are vague rumors of some very distant umpteenth-great-uncle who left America and went to Australia. Sometimes "family stories" such as this are just that, "stories", but sometimes they contain at least a kernel of truth. I've found several branches of my main line out West that way - just from handed-down tales of so-and-so "going west". Thanks in advance for any help, SgtGeorge George W. Durman Knoxville, TN
I received the below notice today and thought I should pass it along to these Lists. For some of us who have been searching for grave sites of some of our ancestors, this new List will be very helpful. SgtGeorge Listowner =======(START OF REDIRECTED MESSAGE)======= Dear List Owner. I have started a new mailing list called VA-Cemeteries. It is a mailing list for anyone interested in locating, and preserving historical information about, Virginia cemeteries or sharing information about them. To subscribe to this list - have your members send the word SUBSCRIBE (In the Subject header), to: VA-Cemeteries-L-request@rootsweb.com (for Normal Mode) or VA-Cemeteries-D-request@rootsweb.com (for Digest Mode). When they get their confirmation, they can then send their query to: VA-CEMETERIES-L@ROOTSWEB.COM I look forward to helping this list grow and become another tool for those researching in Virginia. Ellender is said to be a daughter of Matthias Broyles. Matthias was security for her wedding to James, suggesting a strong relationship. Often it was fathers or brothers who were security. This cannot be considered proof that he was her father, but it is consistent with the tradition that he was. James was son of Jacob Broyles. Jacob's will mentions son James and James is named executor. James and Ellender named sons Matthias and Jacob. I received the following from Ann Brodie Meisburger, via the Guestbook on the Germanna Families web site. Hi Cousin Cynthia. Glad to be of service. I KNOW that we users of these Lists DO miss valuable information from time, just because some users are under the impression that their replies should go personally to the original sender, and not back to the Lists. I have gained more info and data than anyone can imagine from posts to these Lists. And, sometimes I am able to help out when questions arise. Don't forget that our foremost BROYLES/BRILES/WILHITE/WILHOIT/etc. genealogist is Ken Broyles, and he is a subscriber to all these Germanna related Lists. His information is invaluable to many, many researchers. But, he can't help if replies are not made back here to the Lists. If you continue to post and reply publicly, you will be surprised at the cousins you will discover. SgtGeorge George W. Durman Knoxville, TN At 08:05 AM 11/21/2000, Cynthia N. Hi fellow BROYLES researchers. Just a reminder that when you reply to a query, you should always reply BACK to the List, and, if you want to, send a CC: to the original poster. When questions such as Guinn's are asked, and when someone replies privately, no one else on the List gains anything from the exchange. The reason for these Lists is that with the passing of data and information directly to the Lists, we may ALL gain from it. You never know when something you might post publicly to a List will benefit some other researcher, or whether some other researcher just might have more information for you on the same line. I hope that both Guinn and Cynthia continue their correspondence here on the List, since this is this is a line/branch that many of us do not have in our databases. For those of us who want to know about EVERY BROYLES or BRILES cousin in the country, information from these Lists is invaluable. (BTW, Cynthia, I have several BROYLES and BRILES databases, one approaching 8,000 names, one with almost 5,000 names, and several smaller ones that I just have not had time to merge with my main database. I also have a large WILHITE/WILHOIT database with almost 14,000 names. Keep in mind, that I, and most other serious genealogists, don't collect these databases for publishing to the Net/Web, or for writing books or genealogy sheets. We do our collecting to add to our "family" and to be able to help other researchers who join our Lists. I can assure that my "unofficial" databases will never show up on the Net/Web. Heck, most of the data I add to them isn't even supported by source documents! It's just data that I use to help others connect up to the "main tree". AND, I would LOVE to have your BROYLES/WILLIAMSON database! [GRIN]) Keep up the posting, Yer Cuz, SgtGeorge George W. Durman (Listowner) Knoxville, TN At 07:12 PM 11/20/2000, Cynthia N. Hello G.T. and Martha Ann, Glad to hear from you! However, I cannot find either of you in my Fergus database. Can you please post your lineage to me - begin with at least 3 generations back.
