    3. (Gerald's query was originally posted to the Queries Board of the WILHITE Suite at Rootsweb GenConnect. I think that if you have any info for Gerald, you should reply both here on these Lists AND to his personal email address: gwilhite@abbeypress.com. I can't remember if he is a subscriber to the Lists or not.) Hello again Cousin Gerald. Now that we have you hooked up via the BROYLES connection, I would really like to add this line/branch to the informal database I maintain. Would appreciate names of the 8 children, spouses, dates, places, descendants, etc. When we get you hooked up via the William WILHITE side, I would also like to add that data. For those of you who may be new to this and other Germanna-related Lists I manage, I have several "informal" personal databases on my computer. What is meant by "informal" is that I don't require absolutely documented sources for the data others send me. My databases are not meant to be the final word in authenticity, just general references that I use when trying to get people, such as Gerald, hooked up to our various Germanna families. Even with documented sources, we often find errors in dates, places, spouses, children, etc., and I know that in undocumented databases the errors come more often; but, at least by comparing and searching the different databases, we can usually find a starting point for new researchers -- clues for them to pursue in establishing their ancestry. This was the case for Gerald; his BROYLES and WILHITE/WILHOIT ancestors were part of the migration from VA, first to KY, and then on to IN. Seems like several related BROYLES and WILHITE/WILHOIT families left VA, and their descendants just kept inter-marrying. Gerald's Catherine's mother was a WILHOIT!!!!! And her father descends from Adam BROYLES, who married a Mary WILHOIT/WILHITE. Sure wish I could tie Mary into the early WILHITE/WILHOIT line. (Gerald's ancestry also contains some Germanna CARPENTER/ZIMMERMAN ancestors.) Regards, SgtGeorge George W. 1. [BROYLES] Re: Broyles Family Tree

    3. To the BROYLES list: I received the following from Lisa Whitmore at Ram_On@email.msn.com. She located the connection because her father mentioned an "Uncle Pink" in his BROYLES family...and my great grandfather, William Sylvester BROYLES, B. 1855, (one of 16 children of Lewis S. BROYLES, B. 1829, and Laura Ellen WALLER, B. 1834) had a brother named Pinkney O. BROYLES, b. 1879. I have no further information on the people she is inquiring about (nor more on Uncle Pink) and I am hoping someone on the list knows more. (I do have the complete list of the children of Lewis S. and Laura Ellen Broyles if anyone needs it) She is not a list member, so please reply directly to her in addition to the list. Thanks. Donna Mariner Lisa Whitmore writes: "My grandmother was Girlie Broyles Stallings. Her mother was killed when she was young - I think 8 or 9, but can't swear to it. She was born 3/10/1898 in Benton, Illinois. I think the family moved to Missouri when she was still young - her Mom may have been buried there. Her only brother was Raymond Broyles - the baby of the family. I don't know how many sisters she had total - but I know three of her sisters were Grace Broyles Quinn, Beatrice "Beddie" Broyles Vaughn & Lillian. Uncle Raymond insisted Grandma was born in 1897, but Grandma liked to point out he wasn't there. My grandma always said she never really had a name, her Dad just always called her "girl" so when she went to school, the teachers named her "Girlie". Her mother was killed when "during a thunderstorm, the horses bolted on the wagon. A tree limb came down and struck and killed her Mom who was sitting on the seat." She had a baby in her arms (Raymond) which was not touched. All of the other kids were sitting in the back of the wagon. No I have not joined the Broyles Message Board. I am very new to this and just got serious about this in the past month or so. I was thrilled to find "Uncle Pink" on your listing! I have heard a cousin started the research a few years ago - I am trying to make contact with him to see what he can add. I have another clue which may help out - a cousin found out that my great-grandfather's name was "Martin" & his wife was "Ardie". With the other info - it sounds like it might be Uriah Martin Broyles & his wife Artimissa. I'm going to focus down that path right now. If you find any information on them it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your help. Thank you for any help. Lisa Whitmore

    3. This has nothing specifically to do with our Mailing Lists, but I thought it worthy of forwarding. As I have often argued, genealogy is NOT only about names, dates, and places; genealogy is about REAL people and their lives. Did YOU ever stop to think about things like this? About the courage and persistence of our ancestors? Having courage to leave the "old country" was, in itself, almost beyond belief. Having courage to leave their newly adopted homes for "better pickins", fraught with danger, sickness, pestilence, and even death, seems like something we would find in a "tear jerker" movie. But, it WAS real, and our forbearers DID just that! You and I are here today BECAUSE they did. As to those who were left along the trail, in hastily made graves, there, but for the Grace of God, are you and I. SgtGeorge >From: "Nancy S.
