Kimberlee Broyles-Thomasson **********END OF ORIGINAL MESSAGE TEXT*********** Hello again Cousin Kimberlee: I replied to you earlier, but just saw a reply to your post from Lisa, and wanted to add a couple of things. 1) "Hans" was not a BRILES; he was always entered into official records as a BROYLES. The only member of our tree who picked up the name BRILES, was Conrad, Hans' brother. And, "Hans" was actually "Hans Jacob", which was short for "Johann Jacob", I'm sure. (Most of Conrad's descendants kept the BRILES name, although some of them DID revert to the original English interpretation of BROYLES, and some even became known as BRYLES, especially those that ended up in California.) 2) I am intrigued by your line from James Cannon BROYLES!!!!! I maintain a very large database of our ancestors, and have nothing on him!!!!! Would it be possible for you to send me what you have on your branch? (Preferably in GEDCOM format; however, I would take it any way I could get it.) 3) Thank you for the kudos about the Germanna Colonies web site. In addition to managing this BROYLES Mailing List, I am also the webmaster for the web site you mentioned. Thanks for posting on the BROYLES Message Board at Rootsweb. Your post was relayed to this BROYLES Mailing List and I'm glad to see that the two different formats work so well together. Watch for announcements of the Tennessee Germanna Reunion, which is held in conjunction with the Washington Co., TN, BROYLES Reunion in September. Yer Cuz, SgtGeorge George W. Hello Lisa: Thanks for sending the details of your descent in the BROYLES/BRILES family tree. Like you, I like to add everything I can to my own database. Couple of additions/corrections to your data: 1) Johannes BREYHEL died 5 Feb 1731. The place where he died was, at the time, in Spotsylvania Co., but is now in present-day Madison Co. 2) Hans Jacob BROYLES died 18 May 1763, in present-day Madison Co. It was, at that time, in Culpeper Co. 3) Maria Catharina FLEISCHMANN died in 1776. 4) Cyrus BROYLES died 04 Jul 1826, in Washington Co., TN. 5) I have only 6 children for Cyrus and Mary: Daniel, Adam, Samuel Thomas, Tobias, Rosiana, and Mary. Could you provide the names, dates, etc., for the other 2 children? 6) Samuel Thomas BROYLES died in 1845, in Cocke Co., TN. 7) Phoebe BROYLES died 1845, in Cocke Co., TN. (Samuel Thomas and Phoebe were 1st Cousins.) 8) I also have 9 children for Samuel Thomas and Phoebe. BUT..... I have Daniel, born abt. 1794, AND Nicholas, born abt. 1800. Do you have sources for "Daniel Nicholas"? (The U.S. Census reports for 1820, 1830, 1840, and 1850, show only "Daniel", not "Daniel Nicholas". ????? Either the data I have, which was sent by another 'cousin', is in error, listing 2 separate sons, Daniel and Nicholas, or somehow, in your tree, the two were joined as one. Would like to figure out this one. (GRIN) I entered your data into my genealogy database and then did a "relationship calculation". Since you have two cousin marriages in your line, we end up being Sixth Cousins, Once Removed, 3 different ways!!!!! We're not DOUBLE Cousins, we're TRIPLE Cousins!!!!! Wow! Oops! Almost forgot. I didn't have Permelia BROYLES in my database. Do you have her ancestry back in the tree? Would sure like to have that, too. Also, I have a second marriage for Daniel to Margaret GWINN; Source: Marriage License, 9 September 1842, at Parke Co., IN. Didn't know if you had this info or not. Sure nice hearing from you and seeing your data. Please keep in touch. BTW, watch for information on the Tennessee Germanna Reunion in September. It is held annually, on Saturday, during the same weekend as the Washington Co., TN, BROYLES Reunion, which is on Sunday. (2nd weekend of September.) Hello Fellow Subscribers: This is the List Manager for the GERMANNA_COLONIES and BROYLES Mailing Lists. I have been corresponding with one of our BROYLES 'cousins' about his database and finally got it posted on the web site. You can take a look here: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~george/billbroylesdatabase/intro.html Immediately below is a description of the database by Bill Broyles, the one who built it. Enjoy, SgtGeorge List Manager =========================================== NEW DATABASE - Jacob W. Broyles was a member of the 5th generation of the Broyles family in America. His line is: John (Johannes) > (Hans) Jacob > Jacob > James > Jacob W. There's a new database that begins with his 3rd marriage, to Mariah Reynolds, and goes through 3 more generations. It's at the Germanna Colonies web site (http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~george/index.html) Scroll down to the table "Links to Pages on This Web Site", click on "Germanna Families GEDCOM Database", then "Broyles/Briles Family". This will take you to the Broyles/Broyles Databases. It's the sixth (last) database. Bill ==========================================

Have sponsors for all children in the old German and will have it decyphered when possible. Everything that Ken Broyles has published is accurate. Will not be able to use EMail until return. Their first children, twins Hans Jacob and Conrad had one sponsor, Elizabeth Scheirna (Schoen in Virginia). Sounds very interesting. Also a Mattheus Lebers (spellin may not be correct) for almost all their children. Unable to get data on Jacob Roup due to the limited time there. tesheim area dates back to the 7 th century. Dear fellow researchers, I don't usually do this, but wanted to let you all know personally. We have sold our home, and will be in between for a few months. I won't be able to receive any large volume of mail until I get a phone line hooked up. Which can be quite a while. We don't have a well or electricity or anything yet. I will be coming to the library or my daughters home to use computers for a few months. So if you need to send me anything personally after today, please send all email to patty_mier@yahoo.com I will have to unsub from these list until later, but I wanted to let each of you know what is going on. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers, and if you find any information, that you know I am researching, please send it to me off list. Julius J Broyles - Enlisted 5/8/1862, No further record BUT he does turn up in November 1862 as the Asst Surgeon of the 18th Ga Infantry and serves with that unit throughout the war, He had previous medical training so it is likely he transferred over to the 18th to fill this requirement, Son of John Taylor and Clorinda Hammond Broyles, Born 5/18/1831, Died in 1898, Cousin of Marcellus and Walter Broyles Marcellus Franklin Broyles - Enlisted 3/4/1862, Captured at Fox's Gap, Md 9/14/1862, Exchanged 10/2/1862, Captured at Gettysburg 7/2/1863, Sent to Chester, Pa hospital from Fort Delaware 7/19/1863 indicating that he may have been wounded, Sent to Point Lookout 10/4/1863, We know he was exchanged in early 1863 because he shows up on a Confederate clothing receipt record with the notation "par(oled) ex(changed) pris(oner), KIA 5/6/1864 at the Wilderness, Brother of Walter Long Broyles, Born 7/16/1837 in Anderson District, SC to Major Cain and Lucinda Nash Broyles Walter Long Broyles - Enlisted 6/19/1861, Died 11/13/1862 at Crumpton's Factory Hospital, Lynchburg, Va of pneumonia, Buried in Lynchburg City Cemetery but later removed (name shown in cemetery records as W L Boiles), Brother of Marcellus Franklin Broyles, Born 7/25/1832 to Major Cain and Lucinda Nash Broyles You'll note that I've been able to determine that Marcellus did not die in prison. A close examination of his compiled service record reveals that he was exchanged and died in battle at the Wilderness 5/6/1864. I've also been able to determine that J J Broyles only served briefly with the Legion before shifting over to the 18th Ga as an Asst Surgeon. The Broyles brothers also had a cousin in the same company they were in (Infantry Co B), Eugene T Kingsley.
