    1. [BROYLES] Everett Kelsey Broyles
    2. This is the obituary of the greatest Broyles I had the opportunity to know, my Dad, Everett Kelsey. We lost him this past Tuesday, October 28th. Bob Broyles Everett Kelsey Broyles, born on January 17, 1922 in Hutchinson, Kansas was an identical twin to Kenneth Broyles. In addition to his twin brother Kenneth, Kelsey also had two sisters, Alice and Esther, and two other brothers, Clarence and Darrel. While at a young age, the family moved and settled in Wheatland, Wyoming. During their years in Wheatland, the family attended the Methodist Church and Kelsey regularly attended Sunday School and vacation bible school. He was also involved in school sports, such as his favorite, boxing. Kelsey graduated from Wheatland High School in 1939. Upon graduating, Kelsey began work as an apprentice typesetter for the local paper. When the duty of W.W.II called, he and his twin Kenneth enlisted and served together in the Navy. Kelsey’s duties were to provide services as a pharmacist mate and as a surgery technician. Upon termination of W.W.II, the brothers returned to Wheatland, and then relocated the family to Portland, Oregon. It was soon after this point that he met a wonderful little Irish girl, whom he would happily marry and spend the next fifty-six blessed years with. Kelsey and his wife, Imelda Heade, were married on June 14, 1947. Soon after that the family began to grow. Starting with a son, Paul Kelsey, followed by Kathy, Susan, David, Kristi, and Bob, which rounded out the family. During the early years of family life, Kelsey and Imelda raised their kids in the heart of Portland, Oregon, before heading out to the country. It was at this time that Kelsey and Imelda bought some acreage and built a wonderful family farm. The farm included raising nursery stock and blackcap berries and tending to cattle, horses, sheep, pigs, all sorts of fowl, rabbits, etc. They also grew their own hay, Christmas trees, and a vegetable garden that anyone would be proud to call at their own. It was during these years that the family learned much of the farm life, teaching a way of life that would be everlasting in the lives of the children. Whether it was repairing a corral or selecting sires for breeding his stock, Kelsey took matters to heart and always found a way to involve his children in the decision/learning process. In 1988, they sold the farm and moved to Gresham, where Kelsey lived out the rest of his life Soon after Kelsey arrived in Portland in 1940, he worked in the lab of the Portland Gas and Coke Company and Hercules Inc., from which he retired in 1984. Before and especially after retirement, Kelsey truly enjoyed traveling. He was fortunate enough to travel to nearly every corner of the planet, as well as countless regional trips. Kelsey was a member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Gresham. He was also a member of the VFW, the American Legion, active as a volunteer with AARP, Loaves and Fishes, St. Vincent de Paul soup kitchen, various programs within his church, as well as many other activities throughout his lifetime. Kelsey is survived by: his wife Imelda, sons Paul Kelsey and David of Portland, Bob of Tucson AZ., and daughters Kathy Schweitzer of Portland, Susan Clark of Oregon City, and Kristi Noga of Port Orchard, WA. He is also survived by a sister, Alice Newgard-White of Portland, and nine wonderful grandchildren Amber, April, Angie, Melissa, Jason, Mark, Kevin, Carley, and Eric. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him. Rosary will be Friday October 31, at 10:30 am, followed by a memorial Mass at 11:00, at St. Henry’s Catholic Church, 346 NW First St., Gresham, Oregon. Donations may be made to Maryknoll Missions PO Box 302, Maryknoll, NY. 10545.

Our complaint was that Comcast never let anyone know they were automatically stopping some emails because their software deemed them SPAM. Further, Comcast sends no alerts to the fact that there are emails in the Spam Mailbox! And, I can't find anywhere on the website any information that the offending emails are deleted after a certain time period. I'm sure Comcast hasn't been wise enough to automatically erase them after 14 days, or whatever. That's the problem -- users' storage space at Comcast fills up to the 10 Mb limit, then the users can't receive any more email!!!!! And, they can't go to the website and delete the SPAMS because THEY DON'T KNOW ABOUT IT !!!!! Regards, SgtGeorge

    3. Hello Jimmie, What you say is true; however, the complaint is that Comcast did this without EVER telling us users that they had done so. That's a bit NO-NO in my book! Yes, it's relatively easy to go to the website and make adjustments on how Comcast filters for spam, but one HAS TO KNOW ABOUT IT FIRST before being able to do so. Further, even after knowing about the filters, there is NOTHING on the website referring to such a filter. One has to search around to even find the danged thing. That's why I gave specific instructions in my original post on how to get to the filter to make adjustments or turn it off. It's almost like Comcast didn't want to make it easy for users to learn about the filter, or to change it. Don't know why that would be, but it's very suspicious, IMHO. 3. George and Jimmie, I have a local ISP (not hispeed), and we use postini as the spam blocker, I really like it. You program it to what you want, and how you want it to work. About once a week or so, they (the computer) sends a message to me telling that I have messages in my spam email box. I go in and check it, and delete all that I don't want and forward the ones I want to keep. Normally, maybe about 5 or so in a 100 messages do I forward. Note that if you don't check this within a 14 day period, all messages that are 14 days old will be deleted. I have seen several spam programs from different friends locally, and this is the best I have seen. It also catches any viruses and let's me know, so I can go in and delete them also. In reality, I am protected twice, once with this and another on my own computer for virus's. FYI... Bill ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rev. 3. I am a Comcast Cable Net user. Yesterday, I found out that Comcast has installed a SPAM filter that is filtering all of our email before we have a chance to see it. Now, in itself, that's not a bad thing. The bad thing is that Comcast did NOT notify ANY of its users that it was using a Spam Filter. And THAT leads to problems. Comcast filters out of what its anti-spam software thinks is SPAM. It then places it in a mailbox for you, so that you can look through it and save anything that is not SPAM. OK so far. But, since Comcast didn't notify us it was doing this, we didn't know to go to the website and check the filtered email and DELETE it from the spam mailbox. Are you ahead of me? Do you see the problem? I'm sure that some of you have already figured out that for someone who daily receives hundreds of emails, that spam mailbox could fill up quickly, and THAT eats up your allowed space of 10 Mb of files. So, what happens then? You download your email several times a day, knowing that you must keep your mailbox at Comcast emptied. But, you don't know about the Spam Mailbox and all of a sudden you've used up your 10 Mb of space. Any more emails you receive are bounced back by Comcast saying that your mailbox is full. I've had several Comcast users who were unsubscribed from Rootsweb Lists because of excessive bounces. Some of those users swore their mail boxes were empty! They were! But, their Spam Mailbox was full! To me, this is one of the most perfect examples of how companies have no regard for their customers. Comcast didn't even see fit to notify us about its "new" Spam Filter, let alone tell us how to manage it. Go to: <www.comcast.net> On the left side, under "Toolbox", click on "Mail". Log in with your User Name and Password. At the top left, where it says "Change Folders", click on the down arrow and choose "Trash". There you will find all the emails that Comcast filtered out for you. Look through them to make sure there's nothing there you want to have delivered. Next, at the top right, click on "Service Center". In he middle of the window, slightly to the left, you will see "Set E-Mail Screener". Click on it. You will get a window telling you if the "Email Screener" is OFF or ON. You decide what you want to do at this point. If it is ON, there will be a link to click to make adjustments to the screener. It's up to you how you manage your account at Comcast. I just though that many of you might not know what Comcast is doing with its Spam Screener. Forewarned is forearmed. 3. George, I am not sure of Comcast, but I believe I have an answer for you. Highspeed uses postini as their spam filter software, which does the same thing.. But when we loginto this site, we can go to the " Junk Email Settings " at the top of the page, and then go to the bottom of the page and follow the directions: our page looks like this: Sender Lists Approved Addresses will allow senders to bypass the junk email filters. Blocked Addresses will keep messages from reaching your inbox. Are you trying to approve an email mailing list or newsgroup? Yes Button Approved Senders To approve email from an entire domain, enter addresses in the form "domain.com". I don't no if this is the same as in Comcast but, if it is, in the approved senders list, list rootsweb.com and any other common list that you have in your own filters. I agree, it's a pain in the rear....but that is what I have found to play their game. 3. Looking for information on Johan Breuls. The information that we have on Johan Breuls is that he was born either August 26, 1776 in Bremen or August 23, 1781. We have no birth certificate. We do not know when he left Germany to go to England, but that it was probably between 1808-1809 as he got married in 1810 to an English women. I have found it very difficult to find records. I've heard from one other person doing research on a similar name of an ancestor from that part of Germany; but that was so long ago I've forgotten who it was and I can't find the emails on the subject. How much research have you done on Johan? Have you found any birth, marriage, or death records in Bremen? It would be interesting to trace him and see if he came from the Baden-Württemberg area from which our BROYLES/BRILES ancestors immigrated in the early 1700's. I'm sending a CC: of this reply to our genealogy Mailing Lists to see if I can find out anything. Will let you know if any discoveries are made. In the meantime, please keep in touch and keep me informed of anything you discover. Regards, George W.
