    1. Dorthea Broyles
    2. Billy M Claxton
    3. Ken, I am seeing Dorthea Christler listed as Dorthea Creiger in several places. Am I wrong in saying she was the daughter of Theobald and Rosina Garr Christler? Or was Creiger another way to say Christler? In Theobalds will he has a Dorthea Broyles. Was she the one who md. Nick Broyles? Their daughter Elizabeth Broyles md Soloman Yeager and moved off to White Co. Tn. by 1800. I hope I dont have to start researching a Creiger line. I dont know that one . I know Dorthea was left out of the Garr line as Mr. Garr most likely didn't have the will with Rosina Garr Christler in it? Seems I am always getting left out with some of my lines. Guess that is where the fun of research is. Hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving to all of you cousins out there. Barbara

    3. Hi James, I am descended from Aaron Broyles thru his son Charles Edward, who married Lucy Johnson. I have been trying for several years to find the family of Aaron's wife Frances Reed/Reid. Do you have any clues? In the book Traditions and History of Anderson County by Louise Ayer Vandiver it states on pg. 148 " Another of the builder familes of Anderson is that of Broyles. The pioneer in this section was Aaron, who settled somewhere not for from the old Calhoun section, and married Fannie Reed, daughter of another early settler...Mr. Broyles was of German descent, and Mrs. Broyles of French Huguenot blood. Here is a quote about Zachariah and Margaret Chew Carter Taliaferro: He died at his home "Mt. Jolly"a few miles East of Pendleton. Both he and his wife are buried in the family burial ground, enclosed with an iron fence on a hill-top not far from their home, near the center of the present Richard Wright Simpson Experiment Farm of Clemson University. (From STRIBLINGS OF WALNUT HILL AND RELATED FAMILIES.by Bruce Hodgson Stribling 1979. L.D.S. Historical Library book# 929.273 ST81s) A very romantic story of his meeting and falling in love with Margaret Carter: One summer when about 40 years old, he was visiting relatives in Virginia. On the eve of his planned return to South Carolina he was persuaded to remain a day longer and attend a ball at Fredericksburg the next night. That night he dreamed he attended the ball and on entering the room saw a beautiful young lady at the other end of the room tying her slipper. Upon attending the ball and entering the room his dream came true. He sought an introduction and a courtship and eventual marriage to Margaret Chew Carter came to pass. From "THE BROYLES, LAFFITTE AND BOYD RELATIVES AND ANCESTORS OF MONTAGUE LAFFITTE BOYD JR. MD". microfilm#1035565, item 15, LDS Family History Center Library. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me, and I have lots of info on these families will be glad to share. 2. James Albin
    3. The Pendleton District, SC was split in 1826 into mostly Anderson Co, SC and Franklin Co, GA. Major Aaron Broyles seemed to have settled in the part which later became Anderson Co, SC. I was recently at the Indiana State Library and they had several books that included the Broyles family. I have quoted one of them here. "History Of Old Pendleton District and Genealogy of Leading Families", 1978 by The Rev. Silas Emmett Lucas, Jr.; published by Southern Historical Press, pg. 133: BROYLES FAMILY " I. Sarah A. Taliaferro married Dr. O. R. Broyles. They resided for a time on Beaver Dam, Anderson County, then removed to Pendleton and purchased and resided for years at the home now owned by F. J. Pelzer. This place they sold to James T. Latta and then moved to the Town of Anderson, and died there and they are both buried in Silver Brook Cemetery. They had the following children: 1. Augusta Taliaferro Broyles, never married, was a distinguished lawyer and is buried in Silver Brook Cemetery. 2. Charles Edward Broyles married Lucy Johnson, second. He too was a lawyer of distinction. Was colonel in Confederate War, and now resides in Colorado with his second wife. 3. Zachariah Broyles---died unmarried. 4. Wm. 2. Beverly Johnson Sweeney
    3. This site was created by the U.S. Army Military History Institute and it is a searchable database of their Special Collections. Using this database you can see if a photograph exists of your Civil War ancestor. Just enter the surname you're searching and the results page will give any photos of any soldier with that surname, along with (if known) his regiment. Next, you can send an e-mail with the photo ID's that you're interested in. The Army will then send you (for free) a photocopy of the picture, along with instructions on ordering a duplicate photo. An 8x10 photo costs $10.00. No more then ten photos will be produced for any one customer per year. http://carlisle-www.army.mil/usamhi/PhotoDB.html
