It is my understanding that John Wilson died at the home of his son, Charles, in Moline, KN and that he helped to found the town. Also, that Jane Gillespie Hayes spent time at The Hermitage - as a child - with Rachel and Andrew Jackson and that they wanted to adopt her, but an uncle said "no". Also, that Jane's father, Nathaniel, sold the Heritage land to the Jacksons. Would like to share FGRs, etc. with you and any other people interested in decendants from Rosina. 1. Archives of Email Messages on These Mailing Lists
    2. LISTOWNER
    3. Sorry to bother you again, but there have been several requests lately concerning "how to access the Archives for such-and-such Mailing List". It IS a little confusing, so I thought I should cover the ground once more so that all of you can access the "type" of Archives that you desire. (1) You may access Archives for a Mailing List, where you can see ALL of the messages in the Archives, arranged by "threads"; that is, if an original email has been posted, with a specific subject, you can see a header for that email, AND all answers to it, all arranged together. Here's how it works: The first time you try the "Mailing List Archives" at "archiver.rootsweb.com", you will have to establish a User Name and a Password. Please NOTE that this User Name and Password will be the one that you use to access ANY Mailing List Archive in the future; in other words, you will NOT have a different User Name and Password for each different Mailing List. Write down the User Name and Password. Even better, use a good Password utility and put this data into the it. (If you need help on getting a FREE Password utility, send me a private email.) The next time you access this service, you will have to type in your User Name and Password. To access the service for ANY Mailing List, use this URL: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/XXXXXXXX-L (Where XXXXXXXXX-L is replaced by the ACTUAL name of the Mailing List you are trying to access; e.g., BROYLES-L, or GERMANNA_COLONIES-L, or WILHITE-L, etc. Please note that the name of the List is CASE SENSITIVE!!!!! It must be typed in ALL CAPS. Once you have "logged in" you will be presented with a list of the different months you can access. The Archives start with the first month that the List was activated, up to the present month. Click on a month and you will be presented with a page that lists all the messages for that month, arranged by "threads" (subjects). There is a place to click to see all the messages in chronological order, "Chronological Index". This will "un-thread" the messages, and show you a list of email arranged by date. You may also, at the top of the page, do a search of all the Archives for the specific Mailing List. Typing in a "string" and clicking "search" will give you a list of email containing the "string", either in the subject or in the body, for ALL of the Archives for this Mailing List. (2) Second type of Search at Rootsweb: Interactive Search. Go to: http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl Type in the name of the Mailing List, e.g., WILHITE, BROYLES, GERMANNA-COLONIES, CFT-WIN, etc. This entry is not case sensitive. Click "Submit Query". In this search, you do not get a list of emails, either chronological or by thread. You type in your search string, choose the year and click "Search". This one is probably better if you are searching for specific text, or specific subject, no matter which year or month. (3) If you wish to search for a SURNAME on ANY Mailing List at Rootsweb, go here: http://rsl.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/rslsql.cgi Type in the required data and continue. Hope this helps. If you have questions, please do NOT reply back here to the Lists, instead send to me privately at: sgtgeorg@concentric.net Regards, SgtGeorge George W. Durman Knoxville, TN

" This would change her place in history somewhat. Vickie Crim Davis vcdavis@netunlimited.net

    3. Hey folks, Moving like a little freight train with this gen research. Anybody remember "The Little Engine that Could"? OK, I grew up on that (smile). I'm looking for any clues, info, or research ideas that anyone would be kind enough to share with me on FRANK and HESTER YOUNG BROYLES, of Greeneville, TN. I just found out that my FRANK BROYLES' full name was: JAMES F. BROYLES. I think the "F" is for Franklin, and I think I recall there are two (or more?) James F. Broyles in Greene County, TN family records. Can someone help me out with this? I have also found out that HESTER YOUNG BROYLES died in Greeneville, on 6 July 1932. But I don't know where she is buried, or anything about her funeral service. Frank Broyles died in Greeneville in 1922, and I have no details yet. Thank you all in advance, and a blessed holiday season!! Marian Douglas, near Kosovo dasha@unet.com.mk 1920 Greene TN census. District 13, page 188 # 13. 1. A Family Story
    2. Vickie Davis
    3. While looking through a file on the Pearce/Pierce family in Randolph County, NC , I found this story about a couple of the sons of Ansel Pearce and Mary Briles Pearce ( granddaughter of Conrad Briles ) I thought you might enjoy it as I did. <grin> : " Ansel Pierce's boys were said to be very homely. Though each one was said to have married pretty girls. And once prior to the war between the states ,when they were manufacturing salt at Fayetteville , two of the Pierce boys, Ezra and Eli, were sent by their neighborhood to get a wagon load or two of salt to do them all for a year. It was quite a trip at that time. Driving teams of horses or mules and took them several days. They were camping beside the road one night. Eli around the campfire and Ezra in the covered wagon. Two men were passing at the time and one of them was heard to say " I'll bet five dollars that is the ugliest man in NC" and Eli hearing the words , said " I'll bet five dollars it's not so. " The passerby said alright, " Lay down your money " The man did and Eli put down his. Then Eli called " Brother Ezra poke your head out. " Ezra did , not knowing what was wanted. The passerby said, " You win " and gave the money to Eli. The tale was told by them both on their arrival home. " This family is represented in Steve's database here : http://www.ultranet.com/~deeds/broyles/html/d0001/g0000068.htm#I3407 Vickie Crim Davis vcdavis@netunlimited.net
