    3. I have posted another page for John and Eleanor Blankenbaker's Germany Photos. You will find 6 photos of the town of Hüffenhardt at: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~george/johnsgermnotes/hueffenhardt.html Also, I have posted a page for old historical maps of Germany. These maps cover a period of 1241 to 1877. They are very interesting and show what the area, now known as Germany, looked like in the past. You should take a look to see all the "Kingdoms", "Empires", etc., that made up that part of Europe. Just be aware that some of the maps are very, very large and will take several minutes to download in your web browser. I tried my best to reduce the size and increase the compression to have files of smaller size, but the quality of the maps suffered too much. So, there are some really large maps there; but, you can print out quality maps on 8½ x 11 or 8½ x 14 paper, depending on the orientation of the maps. I printed out the Württemberg map at 720 dpi, on 8½ x 14 parchment paper and it is suitable for framing! You may find the Historical German Maps at: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~george/historicalgermanmaps.html If you know of any other map additions I can add that will be of use to us Germanna researchers, just let me know. John, I will post the page for the town of Rödgen later tonight or tomorrow morning. That will finish up what I have - send more. George

    3. John and George, those pictures are wonderful. Many of us will never have the opportunity to actually view the places where our ancestors came from but thanks to the Blankenbaker's we can see their pictures and read about their trip and get a better perspective on the area. Thank you for sharing it all with us! Marge McDowell (Broyles)

    2. David Broyles
    3. My 4g grandparents, John Jackson Smith and Margaret Katherina Butler Smith, named one of their sons Thomas Gipson Smith. We never could find out where the "Gipson" came from, is there a connection here. Margaret Broyles McDowell Margaret, I'm most interested in what you find on the Gipson name. There is a Dyal Mills that married a Judith Gipson Feb. 16, 1830 in Franklin Co; GA. I had always thought it was mispelled for Gibson. Judith or Judy (Gipson ) Mills died sometime before 1840 in GA. 1. [BROYLES] BROYLES Reunion, Washington Co., TN, 09 & 10 September 2000
    2. George W. Durman
    3. Hello all. I'm finally back to work on genealogy related things on the Internet after taking it easy for several weeks, due to some medical problems. Just wanted to remind everyone not to forget the BROYLES Reunion: (You can read all about it AND download maps and driving directions on the web page at: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~george/2000broylesreunion.html (Below is an extract of the information found there.) BROYLES Reunion at the Philadelphia Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Washington Co., Tennessee !!!!! (9 & 10 September 2000) For several years a reunion has been held in late summer for the descendants of Simeon BROYLES, at the Philadelphia Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Washington Co., TN. This year, we thought it would be appropriate to invite descendants of ALL of the early Germanna families in Washington and Greene Counties. This makes sense, since there are few of us indeed who cannot find ties to most of those families. If you descend from a WILHITE or WILHOIT from East Tennessee, you will probably find a BROYLES somewhere in your pedigree. The same applies to most YAGER/YÄGER, MAUCK/MAWK/MAUK, COPP/CUPP, etc. Germanna families of East Tennessee. On Saturday (Sept. 9) there will be Singing at the Church in the afternoon. Hot dogs, hamburgers, and other foods will be on sale in the pavilion by the youth of the Church. Afterwards, there will be a tour of Simeon Broyles' old home place, which is about a mile and a half down the road. Saturday will be a good time to start meeting all your cousins. On Sunday (Sept. 10), there will be morning services at the Church, with lunch in the pavilion. Lunch will be "pot luck", i.e., everyone should bring a dish of some kind of food. For those of you who are driving in for the day, and live close enough, you can prepare something at home and bring with you. For those who are coming from far away, you could stop at a restaurant or super market in Greeneville or Johnson City and pick up some "Kentucky Fried", or whatever you wish to bring. PLEASE RSVP !!!!! Since we really need to know how many cousins to cook for on Saturday, and how many chairs & tables are needed both days, we ask you to reply as soon as possible if you plan to attend. I'm keeping a list of all out-of-the-area visitors, and would appreciate the following information: Name Address Broyles/Germanna Connections Number in Party Any other information you would like to send (To send me your RSVP, send to mailto:sgtgeorg@concentric.net) Most of you should be familiar with John "Ken" Broyles and John Blankenbaker. Both have been invited to attend. Ken is coming for sure, and John Blankenbaker will probably be there. And of course, I, SgtGeorge, will be there. *********************************************** (Here, on the web page, are given maps and driving directions.) I've kept a list of email addresses for those who requested notification when the reunion was firmed up. I'll send out the same notice to those cousins tomorrow, so some of you will end up receiving two copies of this. We hope lots of you can attend and look forward to meeting you. If you're a BROYLES descendant, however far removed, you should really try to make this one. As far as we have been able to ascertain, 99.99% of all people who are named BROYLES, or who descend from a BROYLES, have roots in Washington and Greene Counties in Tennessee. The only known descendants who don't are those that descend from the Moses BROYLES line. He came to Washington Co./Greene Co. along with all the rest, but returned to VA in a few years. This includes all spelling variants, BROIL, BROILES, etc. Also, all you BRILES descendents are cousins and descend from old Conrad, who lived just over the mountains in NC. This includes all variants also, BRILE, BRYLE, BRYLES, etc. If there's any confusion as to the location of your BROYLES ancestors, when they arrived in what is now Washington and Greene Counties, it was still part of North Carolina. So don't let the state fool you. Again, hope to see as many as possible at the reunion and DON'T FORGET let me know how many will be in your party. For those traveling from out of state, there are many motels nearby in Johnson City and Greeneville for those who want to attend both days. Regards, SgtGeorge George W. Durman (My mother's maiden name was Mary Frances BROYLES; she's still living and will be there.)

    3. Use the info from your family as a guideline. Much family provided info is incorrect in some way, but still useful to point you in the right direction. We know from the census that James and Mary were alive mid-year of 1860 and that JJ was not yet born. It is unlikely that they both died in 1860. Write the county courthouses of Van Buren and Stone Cos., Clerk of Deeds office, for copying fees for the grantor/grantee and grantee/grantor deed indexes for the name Broyles in the late 1800's. Include SASE. Sometimes they'll just send you the info if you include a few dollars. The indexes will show all purchases and sales by people named Broyles. I'm not familiar with AR death records. Your best bet is to find USGenWeb and see what they have regarding this. Once you find the proper authority you can send away for copies. USGenWeb (use a search engine to locate it) can probably help with marriage records too. It would be good to get JF and Mary's marriage record. JF, by the way, is probably named for James Franklin Broyles, a prominent member of the community in Green Co., TN. Be careful with the name J.F. Broyles because there were a number of them. This states that he was a member of the Arkansas Peace Society of 1861, I also found a land record that he had land in Stone Co Arkansas in 1861 and 1860. This has all really got me wanting to know more. If you have any ideas on how I can find more out please let me know I am new at all this.
